How many basses do you own? Are lefties bass hoarders?

Uhhm......

Twenty-six, eleven of those I made myself the others were bought.

At the moment there is one under construction (DIY, of course ) and one is on it's way to me from China.

I would say I'm a bit of a hoarder... I think I have eleven at the moment, and a few guitars. I really don't consider myself a collector, it's just... If I ever sell one and regret it one day, the odds of finding the same or an identical instrument left handed again are close to zero. I had to search for 4 years before I finally came across an Ibanez Musician, for example. I would never dare think about selling those, they're amazing basses. So I like to hold on to what I've got, and I rarely sell anything unless it really doesn't get any use or if after a brief period of time the instrument turns out to be not what I was looking for (we all know it's hard finding instruments to try out in stores, so I sometimes try out instruments by just buying them used online... If it's not my cup of tea, it goes back on the internet for the highest bidder ).

I feel the same way as Jeroen does, it's already difficult enough to stumble upon a lefty bass I might want so once I own it I don' t feel a need to sell it.

I buy and sell a lot, and try to keep no more than 2... Currently I have 3 basses and one on its way

I usually have between 4 and 6 basses and try to use them all. Any more and my house gets way too crowded. Right now I have a 75 P ,84 Steinberger XL2 (used primarily for recording ) 88 Bass Collection (love this bass) 2002 Lakland Joe Osborn and my primary gigging bass a Sonic Blue Frankenfender.

I'm in the same boat as Jeroen. I find 'em and if I like them I keep 'em. I think I'm up to 9 right now.

And I'll never get anywhere near the number of basses ALB has! I'd have to build an addition to my house to accomodate that many basses ... mmmm ... actually, not such a bad idea ....

Fender-like basses pretty much satisfy my needs so I'm sure that has something to do with why I don't desire very many. Throw in that I'm very particular (and old-fashioned) plus a lefty (duh) and it REALLY narrows down the selection anyway.

I think the most I ever had at one time was three and it drove me nuts! Soon, one of the three would become the red-haired step-child and....

And I would always gravitate towards one. Just want to bond with "the one". Sounds cheesy.

I can't really afford to be one, but even in the days when I wasn't a student and played guitar I had two electrics and on stayed in it's case for years.
I'm somewhat monogamist on this one. if I find something I like that's the only thing I want to play, and buying two of the same is silly because:
a. I'm broke as shit.
b. I don't tour nor play live shows.

Without counting 30 - 32. Too many probably, horder status I guess . Only Fender or Fender Style custom builds. I enjoy putting them together and the thrill of the hunt. Good thing there is a limited supply or I would be broke. Here's a few.

A good friend suggested many years ago, never sell a bass just get additional basses. I was lucky and kept almost all the good ones but to be honest I have let a few good ones get away.

I have about 20 basses, 4-5 I have in the regular rotation, the rest are as needed. Example I jam with some friends and do all Beatles, I bring the 68 Hofner, 82 Ric 4001C64. Doing newer stuff, I bring a 5 string. Jazz stuff I have a fretless. In all cases I always show up with 2 or 3 basses.

Four, although one is on an indefinite loan to a practice space, and two are purely unnecessary, but sexy and fun-to-play, pieces of eye candy. If I had more room, there would surely be more because they will all partly fund my retirement

But yeah, I agree lefties might need to impulse buy or stock up for all the reasons mentioned above.

I have four and would not want more. It its just what I need and I like them all. I have more guitars however and I plan to get more acoustic guitars.

I only have two, my Martin Acoustic and my Fender American Jazz Deluxe. I am going to put up for sale as soon as Rod tells me my build should only take another 2-3 months until my build is finished) the Fender American Jazz Deluxe. Using the proceeds from that to fund a 5-String build by Rodent (Regenerate Guitar Works) that I have already commissioned and paid the deposit on. If anyone is interested in buying the jazz let me know.

I don't see myself getting any other basses, except maybe a cheap SX 5 string that I can take with me when I go on a work trip for more than a week.

Funny, i recall about 8-10 years ago that there were just tons of late 70's blonde fretless P-basses floating around. Back then you couldn't give them away. Now, you rarely if ever see one for sale, even on eBay.

Nice to know that someone on our board has one.!
