Rickenbacker 4003

Post by Willyace65 »

Hey all! I just picked up a Ric 4003 from 2001. Overall, it's in pretty good shape. I'm initially planning on cleaning it up, throwing on some La Bella flats, and taking it out to play. In the unlikely event that I don't like it, I'll post it for sale here. My question is, how much would you clean up a bass from '01? Obviously, I'll clean up all of the fingerprints and sweat streaks, and blow out the dust bunnies, but how deep should I go? It's not a "relic", and doesn't have that kind of wear anyway. Should I pull parts and buff them? Oil tuners? Anything special I should look out for with this particular bass? Thanks!

They are Great Basses, just remember it's a Ric so make it sound like a Ric, so many folks get Ric's that have a unique sound (Rush, Wings, Yes) and try to make it sound like a Fender.

I have an 1980 Ric I purchased brand new, remember the balance of the weight is a little different where the Neck feels heavier than the body. Not sure if your bass is Stereo but you can always get a Y cable at Amazon if needed.
