Lefty Gibson Les Paul Jr in Canada C$1,950

Post by bobjones2260 »

I saw this on a FB Post not sure if everyone can see it or if you have to be a member, but a very cool bass. Here is the sellers description.

I’m selling my lefty Gibson Les Paul Junior bass guitar. I’ve only used it 2-3 times and that was to record. It has barely left the brand new gig bag in which it came in. When I bought this from Long and Mcquade it was 1 of only 2 of these bass guitars available in Canada and the other one was in Ontario. I never use it and that’s why I’m selling it. Delivery available.

This one irks me a bit. I totally get 'supply and demand' and all that. It's a real thing and does - and should - affect prices. But... this is excessive.

$1950 CAD is roughly $1425 USD. I'm pretty sure Southpaw Guitars - who have never been accused of 'underpricing' - still have a couple of these left right now for $1099 USD brand spanking new. That's a little over $1500 CAD.

When these were available in Canada at Long & McQuade's they were $1250 CAD brand new with a gig bag. What the seller is saying about there being only two in Canada is total BS. There were more than two. I know because I waffled on buying one for quite some time and they had them in stock for ages. L & M is also the wholesale distributor for Gibson for all of Canada. So.... there were more than two.

I totally get why retailers are having to increase prices. I'm heavily involved in both the retail and manufacturing side of the bicycle industry. It's still chaos and will continue to be for some time. The cost of running a retail business is skyrocketing and that will push prices up. But for a private individual to buy a bass for $1250 CAD and then - less than a year later - sell it used for 56% more than he bought it for, and about 25% more than you could buy a new one from Southpaw..... that's ballsy.

Sorry for the rant. I don't know why this one bugs me so much. Please return to your regularly scheduled program and accept the apology of the grumpy old man in the corner. Hahaha....
Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.
