Fender ADE Jazz

Post by Matt R. »

Just bought this beauty.
Some of you were around when the American Design Experience (pre-Mod Shop) was a thing a few years ago and may remember what a disaster it was overall. I did play a couple amazing ones, and I’m stoked to have found this.
If it’s a lemon I can return it, but it’s from Gruhn Guitars so that gives me peace of mind..

I’ll let you all know how it is of course.
Here it is:

Wow nice!
Congrats Matt!
I like that the ADE offered vintage style and modern, better than the current mod shop.

Great deal, I saw this one quite a while ago, but shipping to Germany was too expensive.
These custom made do not pop up often and this one is a beautiful one.
They also had another one, a Preci for sale some months ago, beautiful white blonde with gold pickguard, which a friend of mine bought, see attached pic

For everyone interested, here some background infos from Fender:
Fender American Design experience started at Fender Visitor Center in Corona in 2011 and went online in March 2014 via innovative guitar builder interface on website.
Too many confusing custom options, therefore change to Fender Mod Shop in June 2016. Still only available for US market.

Just got it in my hands. Basically in unplayed condition. Later I’ll be able to do some tweaks and such to make sure all is well, but the neck seems true so far. And if it all checks out, I’m going to convert it to a stacked knob setup.
I’ll keep you all posted and of course add pix eventually.

No chance to add a washer or two? If you love the thing, it may worth to salvage it...

Nah. Not for what that thing cost. The neck was otherwise very nice. But the next time it needs a neck tweak, that’s a wrap.

I would have expected more from Gruhn guitars as they always talk about how they go over every inch of every guitar.

They are supposed to be a premier shop.

That Jazz was a consignment. I offered $1500. for it (asking price was $1650.) a few months back but the seller wouldn't budge.

As far as Gruhn goes, his reputation is far from stellar. I had a bad experience with him back in the nineties.

I’m definitely not gonna throw shade at Gruhn. They have been awesome to work with and I’ve been to their shop several times over the years, and that place is top notch.

I'm thinking that bass is now going to be a hard sell.

Dammit, I was so excited for you on this one..urgh!
In the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful...
