Lefty Basses Stolen!

Post by tallboybass »

A couple of weeks ago FIVE basses were stolen right out of my house (in Tulsa, OK)....all lefties!

Black Warmoth Jazz w/rosewood f/b, no pg, chrome knobs, lipstick Jazz PUs
Dark Wood Yamaha BB400, chrome knobs, chrome PU surround, reverse P pickup
Honeyburst MusicMan StingRay 4 fretless, no pg
Sunburst Hofner Icon Beatle Bass
Black Kramer Ferrington Acoustic/Electric

Also a black Korean Squier Strat.

Let me know if you see anything out there...

Thanks, Alan

That really sucks Alan, I'm sorry to hear that.

Everyone please keep an eye out on your local Craig'sList/Ebay/etc. for these basses.

I hate these stories! Do you have pix, serial #s, etc?

But as mentioned in another thread, it will be harder for the criminal to unload a lefty, and even if he keeps it under wraps for a while and manages to make a quick sell, the new potential buyer may be unaware of it's previous history and inadvertently make it more visible. I would think the Kramer Ferrington would be hard to hide.

I'm seriously considering buying a bunch of these. If your property leaves a specific area, you're immediately alerted despite the 200 max meter range.

That's a good idea. In this day and age I'm surprised we havn't seen a company putting GPS chips in their basses yet.

Was anything else taken?? If not it was most likely done by someone who knew they were there? Stealing left handed basses is like sealing a beta tape. There is no use for them unless by some weird chance somebody has a beta player or even as rare a lefty bass player. I would stay off the radar and not make a lot more noise. This will only give them reason to stay low. Check pawn shops as I don't think they would want to be connected to the sale like eBay or Craig's list would have them. Bastards!!! Maybe your insurance will cover it?? You have a list of the S. N.'s I think Carvin sells basses with a "Low Jack" chip. Funny though that's like a car alarm on a Hyundai...

Good luck! Glad to see you got the first one back.

I had one guitar stolen years ago. Despite it being a lefty, I was never able to find it. I looked at every single lefty guitar that was listed on Ebay for many many years and I never came across it.

Hot tip from a friend of a music store friend led to finding it hanging in a crazy trading post store out of town. What are the odds?

'Blackie' is BACK!!! :D

Good stuff. Did you get the police involved when you got it back? Any leads on the thieves?

It's great that you got it back, you probably would have been happy to pay that much as a reward. That said, you really shouldn't have to pay anything, it's yours.

Don't know how the laws are where you are but that shop could be in trouble for buying stolen property and may well owe you a refund. They should be investigated by the police as a lead to trace back to whoever stole your stuff in the first place. I am amazed if the cops are not following up. Have you asked? Man if it was me I'd be buggin those guys big time to get on it. Finding the one bass should be a clear path to finding the rest. Good Luck!

I don't how it is in other States but here in California pawns shops have to verify your ID and take your fingerprints when you are selling anything.
I agree, you should not have to pay to get your own gear back.

This place isn't a pawn shop so they don't have to abide by those laws.

It's going to work out OK, my insurance adjuster is very understanding.
