Whatcha listening to?

Post by andrew »

I've been on a real Jesus Lizard kick lately. What's been in heavy rotation for you?

I've been really digging this Italian band Uzeda. They remind me of Shellac in all the right ways (plus their new album was recorded by Steve Albini... that never hurts).

On a somewhat related note, Andrew is slowly making me see the good side of Aluminum necked guitars.

I've been keeping an eye out for the new Uzeda record "Stella" since you pointed it out to me Hieg, did you pick it up?

Yeah, an aluminum necked Electrical Guitar Company bass is really tempting me right now.
No upcharge for lefty either, which is nice.

Austin, what IS that?

I've never seen a bass like that before. Does it just have the holes, or it is actually a hollowbody?

It's an Eastwood EEB-1, a modern version of the Ampeg AUB played by Rick Danko of The Band(tho' his was fretless), and a few others. It's a solidbody with f-holes thru the body.

Austin, how are you digging the Eastwood? I picked one up as well and I really like it, though I just wish they were able to do it with the scroll headstock. Maybe they were at risk of patent infringement or something.

Oh yeah, what am I listening to? Well, since my 1-1/2 year old daughter drives around in the car a lot with me I'm sort of forced to listen to Raffi, LOL. But I have to admit, the guy knows how to write some catchy children's tunes. She loves him.

When I have a moment to myself, I've been listening to WFMU and discovering all sorts of great stuff. I found a few psychedelic 60's bands I never heard of that are great, like The Honeybus. Also digging Brandi Carlisle, The Cynics, and Grapefruit.

Listening to lately:

Pillar
Bullet For My Valentine
Boysetsfire
Protest the Hero
Sevendust
Skillet
Unearth

I listen to mostly hard rock/hardcore/metal/punk type of stuff...as far as mellower stuff is involved, does Nelly Furtado count?

I've been listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree (have all their albums) as well, but then I discovered Oceansize and they are now the band that I spend most of my time enjoying. Oceansize may be a little weird at first but once they get their hooks in you ... man! :o  MASSIVE sound! I recommend "Everyone into Position" for their more accessable stuff and "Effloresce" for their deeper stuff once you "get" their sound. ;)
MIA 60th anniversary Pbass,
Musicman Bongo HH Carbon Blue
MIM Jbass
Fretless Fullerton Deluxe Ventura active HS
Aria Pro II 5 string P/J pups... possibly for sale.

Excuse the noob. There's a bad side? I've never played an aluminum neck.. All the basses I've had my hands on (3 of the, the basses, not the hands) have been wood, one of them was a neckthrough design.

So, tell me about aluminum
