Well, I won the auction. I should be excited but I'm still freaked out by how much I paid. I guess you REALLY have to be comfortable with the maximum bid you enter.

(I'm still trying to laugh about it and I love my wife for not killing me right now...)
We know nothing about this bass except for the handful of so-so pictures on the auction site. I never heard back from the seller, via phone or email. It's certainly a risk, and I will examine the bass inside and out when it arrives. I'm also going to take it to my local guitar guy and also to Mike Lull -- Mike's worked on some of my other basses and enjoys seeing the rare lefty Fenders. If anything is questionable, or of course if it's not playable, I will return it and eat the shipping costs. It's so weird to pay that much and never get a more detailed description of the bass.
