Re: M-Series™ entering production
holy crap rod! forget anything ive ever posted on here about wanting a singlecut bass, when i have the money for a custom bass you have my buisness, one question though, i havent seen any on here or on your site, do you make 6 strings?
Re: M-Series™ entering production
I used to offer a 33" 6-string single-cut before I closed my shop in mid-2008
fast forward to late 2010 when I will be reworking my earlier neck design to add a 34"/35" scale 6-string version to the M-Series line. I have several builds I need to get to customers before I can begin working the new prototypes and accompanying templates. at my current rate, the first 6-string unit or two should be available by late Spring 2011
at this point in time I don't have plans to offer a 6-string P or J bass clone, since there are several ergonomic issues with their design that would make it difficult to craft a bass with excellent upper fret access that also is not neck heavy without having a bass that weighs-in in the 11.5 - 13+ pound range
for reference - Andrew got to 'play' my 33" single-cut prototype last time he was by. I think he'll agree that my 33" design doesn't suffer the from the floppy B syndrome

Re: M-Series™ entering production
here's an image of the finished M-Series 5 as it looked before pounding the subs earlier this weekend. all-in-all an absolute success that played even better than I had hoped for

the Big Splits gave my P-bass serious competition to the point where the P simply spent a show on its stand

Re: M-Series™ entering production
update on the Redwood/Maple/Redwood sandwich body: it just arrived back from a friend's CNC shop when I had the neck pocket cut
here's the body blank with shiny new neck pocket and wiped with a little Naphtha to highlight that gorgeous Redwood burl top (it's almost a shame that the back side is 98% as stunning as this top side)

WOW!
The grain pattern right next to the neck pocket looks like a cat's face.
Rod, that top looks so good it would be a shame to route any pup cavities in it! Maybe you should make this one a piezo only config and leave that top unrouted!

freshly cut edge wiped with a little Naphtha to reveal the figuring

it only gets better looking from here
I'm officially on forced leave at my day-job beginning Wed afternoon Dec 15th and running until Jan 3rd. I'm sensing a whole lot of projects nearing completion will be getting wrapped up during this time.

Re: M-Series™ entering production
that's the trouble with finding stellar figure - you never want to do anything with it that hides or removes some of the figuring. the customer funding this build isn't into piezos

yup - high $$$ specially selected Mahogany for this body. definitely NOT Honduran Hog that's for sure. I also liked the chatoyance of this particular board, too bad you can't see just how alive looking it is in the images

more M-Series Koa goodness ... this time it's a 5-string on extra light weight Mahogany (same Hog as was used on the 4-string above) with a similar black accent veneer in between

this one is going to be tought to route pickup cavities in ...

Maybe you can save the routed wood and get matching pup covers made?

Stunning! I love the V-neck wood grain running down below the neck pocket.

Killer B string, I couldn't believe how nice it felt.
