Is it just me or do these Gibson basses just not have that Wow factor to them? I see them and certain aspects just look like a cheap bass.

Don't get me wrong I had a Gibson bass before Thunderbird and I loved it, but these midtown basses just look eh to me.

I think if it's a choice between this ...

Something to add to the "things I didn't know existed" file! Stuff like this makes me so curious about the person who first ordered it.

Why do the prices change drastically when I click on a bass? Case in point: '77 Fender Jazz is showing $2400. When I click on that item, the price jumps to $3306.00. (VAT added?)

Dunno. Maybe the site detects the location of your ISP and adjusts for something like shipping or currency transfer ...

I saw a lot of 60s style Garage Rock bands in 2000s Japan who played similar era instruments and they always sounded and looked great.

I didn't know a 5-string Pilot even existed for lefties.

Would you get charged a tariff if you flew to Italy and brought it back in person?

That is a cool looking bass and the functionality of the controls sounds interesting. Does anyone have any experience playing one of these? I’d be fascinated to know how it sounds.

The headstock reminds me of Fender's 1960s 5 string bass. But as you say, it's a copy not an original and the price seems fine for such a thing. Unless it played or sounded bad, I personally wouldn't be bothered for something at that cost.

My first guitar was a 1968 Jazzmaster which has a bonkers finish. That's probably why no one wanted it in 1984 - it was the age of neon and shred. I've had it since I was a teenager.

I bought a 1964 lefty Jaguar in early autumn 1991, about a month before Nevermind came out. Pure luck. If it was just a few months later, the price would have skyrocketed to Cobain la la land and I never could have afforded it. I still have it.

I think that shipping price is very reasonable. Almost too reasonable, if you know what I mean...

Exactly - and yet these sellers just keep the ads up without making them more sellable. I guess they are waiting for a unicorn.

I've seen the same sorts of vintage instruments at prices like that for years and years on Reverb. They never seem to sell very much. I'm assuming because the people who are actually serious about moving these pieces are charging significantly less?

I had no idea that Squier made lefty Jazzmasters but I looked it up and they sure did.

I am in the UK and the shipping is almost as high which makes no sense. Whoever buys this should just arrange local pickup and fly there to get it in person. It would probably still be cheaper.

But yes, this is the instrument (and strings) that created the much sought after "Melodie Nelson" bass ...

Are western countries also spamming Russian sites this much? I am genuinely curious.

That's more than it cost new 15 years ago if I recall. Has the value of these Jags increased or is the seller just testing the waters?
