Rondo's SCPB design, not a lefty....but

Post by ADSR »

Rondo often seems to come up with lefty designs in the models they carry. No mention of one so far on this model, but maybe down the road.

Years ago I tried their SX split coil P model in a lefty. Have to say that while it looked nearly identical and felt pretty good, it sounded nowhere close to a Fender P bass.

Wonder how close this model actually sounds to a Fender SCPB reissue. If they did introduce a lefty version, for the money you could still switch out the pup for one of the better ones and then you might have something.

Edited to add:
The feature list implies the bass is fretless but I think that is a misprint. An FDP forum member checked and determined it's fretted.

If they offer it lefty I'll buy one on the spot!

I'm not digging the headstock, but there's a good chance we could see a lefty since Kurt is willing to try anything and at that price you could shape the headstock to look more like a real SCPB I suppose.

My thought too. The body looks great but that headstock does nothing to conjure vintage vibe.

Why don't one of you email Rondo to see if they'll do a lefty version?

I think they have to be careful about not getting too close to the Fender design which is no doubt copyrighted. The bass looks awfully close to the original as it is. Yes, you know that headstock almost looks like it's unfinished but that they left it blocky so you could re-shape it. "We can't finish it into the Fender headstock shape, but ummm, you could!"
