Fender MIJ P '57 or '62 RI Black with maple fretboard

Post by Nilezd »

Hey all,

Since I am very happy, still, with my MIJ '75 RI Jazz ('93/'94) and I'd like to expand some more sound-wise I have come to the conclusion I want a Precision :)

So if anyone has spotted or knows of a black MIJ Precision RI '57 or '62 with a maple fretboard for sale please let me know.
Preferable the pickguard is also black, but that's something I intend to replace if it's not on there.

I've already checked the Wanted and For Sale section here, Arni's site, Reverb, Ebay, Ishibashi and some other sites over the course of 3 months, but still unable to find one that fits the aesthetic needs ;)

Depending on the price I'd consider importing it from anywhere to the Netherlands if shipping and customs are around the €600/$750.

Thanks!

I remember seeing one recently, just went back to the listing but it's now sold.

So that's indeed what I am looking for, except then maybe the pickguard. :)

Maybe slightly off-topic, but just wondering if there is a 'golden era' in where Fuji-gen produced the best RI basses?
I guess that might be subjective, as it comes down to what one likes. Still have this 'thing' for early 90's produced, but that's mainly founded on the Jazz I own.

Regards best period of MIJ.
I owned 3 JB62 RI all from around '93 and only one of them stood out for me as anything special. I also owned a '57 RI P from 2010 and it was superb.
In saying that, all my MIJ Fenders were as good as any USA vintage Fenders I have played.
I prefer smaller and short scale basses these days.

That's almost the opposite of my perception, lol :P Which actually does make me wonder. Not need to aim for an early 90's so thanks for that, seriously. :)

Testing the actual bass will prove nearly impossible as I think it'll be more likely to ship it to NL rather than it being just around the corner.

The description says the body is made of alder. I'm not so sure about that. Mine (and later sblueplanet's) was basswood.

That's a nice find and in Europe too! Considering placing a bid, as I think the price is a little steep (even if it is Alder)

Works out at about £770. Im sure you could negotiate. If its a dream bass and hard to find then maybe worth Putting in an offer which includes delivery to UK.
