This bass is somewhat interesting because 2000 is after Warwick stopped using Wenge for the necks and switched to Ovangkol.

The seller gave me the serial number and I e-mailed Warwick and they confirmed that the neck is indeed Wenge.

For what it's worth, I think the switch to ovangkol that you're referring to applied to bolt-on necks, not neck through basses.

I got my Thumb NT 5 in late 2000 or early 2001 and it also had a 7-piece laminated wenge neck.

I am curious: have you run the serial number of yours through the decoder on the Warwick website?

I ran the serial number of the bass in question through the decoder and it came back saying it has an Ovangkol neck. I didn't believe it, so I e-mailed Warwick and they replied saying it does have a Wenge neck.

Interesting discussion about the neck wood of this bass. Any time you see that rick dark chocolate brown, 9 times out of ten you're looking at Wenge. Especially when looking at a Warwick. The body itself looks like Ovangkol, also known as Shedua (I've seen a few Wal basses listed as having "Shedua facings"). Did Warwick confirm that was an Ovangkol body?

I believe that is a Bubinga body. Also the older Warwick basses (this one) does not have a valute support at the nut area of the bass. It was to strengthen the headstock tension.

They confirmed that it is Bubinga. I don't know that Warwick has ever used Ovangkol for NT bodies.
