I offered $750. Turned down cold. Any opinions on this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-fender-pre ... 2a42c289b8

Considering a road trip. I just asked to get a close up of the truss rod nut. I won't blow the time & gas until I see that.

He mentions it in the context of getting rid of "junk". I'm just assuming it's long trashed. This seems like a really cool bass. I'll try my best to investigate in person if it seems worthwhile

I like this little gem at the end of the description
One more thing---- I use the computers at the local library and they close on weekends, holidays or special events, so have a little patience.
yup, good luck with your communication exchange should there be any issue(s) with the exchange

there was a time when I wasn't so cynical about eBay sellers ...

I'm guessing older feller, super-rural 'Bama, so the computer at the library bit doesn't shock me or raise red flags. Speculating of course.

Here's the guys answer about the weight. "I really don't know. It's no heavier or lighter than any other electric bass I've picked up -- what 15 lbs?--20 Lbs? " WTF????

Just replied back about the truss rod. He said it was already boxed up for shipping. I guess it sold.

It's still on ebay as available. Maybe he just pre packaged it. Check out his response to me concerning the weight of the bass :?

I would stay away fro that one AND I was interested when I first saw it. Mod-able fretless. Think Tony Franklin.

I've got a 78 that I've been thinking about selling. It's all original and is true closet classic. Probably 9.8/9.9. Because of the condition it would be more than the one discussed here.
Not the best picture, but if anyone is interested i can get bester shots and answer any questions.

There is VERY little original '76 left here.

This is what I was e-mailed today:

"I changed out the whole neck---- the orig neck was fretless and maple and also had a flaw.
---- I'm pretty sure I had a new set of pick-ups put on the bass about 15 years ago
because they became corroded and started giving me problems---- the bass has a new
pick guard---- the old one had a piece broken off----- the bass has recently been completely
rewired because over the years a couple of folks worked on the bass that had no business
working on a bass-----jack-legs----- I made sure I found a professional to rewire and
check this bass over.------------------- any way----- it looks as if the bass is about to sell-----
if still interested---- just check back----thanks----w.h."

So, neck wrong, wiring wrong, pick-ups wrong, pick guard wrong, bridge wrong. It's a '76 thrashed body and...
