Hey guys. My '74 Jazz Bass has a grim prognosis neck-wise. I need to try and score a replacement 4 bolt blocked & bound neck in good shape. My neck is all maple, but I'd put a rosewood board on this bass too if I had to.
This bass is my favorite and I'm absolutely sick about it.
I am not interested in any aftermarket necks. I want the real thing, as this bass means a lot to me.
Thanks!
Matt

Re: 70s Four Bolt Jazz Bass Neck
That's a late 70s neck that someone drilled extra holes in. Thanks though!

Well it could be a '75. But those holes are not stock. That would be taking a huge chance I think. It's damn clean looking though

Very sorry to hear about the neck Matt.
Hope you can find what you're looking for and get your sweetheart back in the game.

Thanks! I do believe a repair option has been figured out that will restore the neck to brand new practically

What's wrong with the neck, Matt? Twisted? T rod?

Basically- Yes.
The truss rod is maxed. At about the 15 fret or so on the treble side, there's a "ski jump" type warp in the fingerboard.
Due to the 3 metric tons of plastic material in 70's Jazz Bass necks (i.e. blocks & binding), the neck cannot be heat treated to straighten it out.
So, the fix will be insane, but will theoretically bring the neck back around to new as far as functionality is concerned.
It's at Glaser Instruments in Nashville. They are going to remove the block inlay at the first fret and access the end of the truss rod where it has compressed the wood at the end of the channel and insert a metal shim, which will allow the truss to be backed out all the way to where it has all its turns back.
Then the fingerboard's gonna get a good old fashioned planing, re-fret and refin and a plek job. It's gonna cost, but I am really stoked about it.
Here's an action shot from a few years ago with the ol' battle axe. Bass face.

Will do. They said they would send me pix of the repair process, so I'll share them here if I get them.
