WTB: Gibson EB bass

Post by andrew »

I'm looking for a Gibson EB bass in either black or white finish. Anyone have one to part with? Thanks!

Thanks Moses. I saw that one but they want more for it than they ought to. You can buy them new for less still.

Fair enough. I'm very stubborn about paying upcharges for lefties myself. (I won't do it.)

How's the search going Andrew?
I've watched a few demos on YT and the EB seems to cover the Musicman tonal territory very nicely. Looking forward to see what develops for you.

Nothing yet but my local store has a 2014 one on order that I'll check out. Unfortunately they aren't doing black or white finish in 2014. But they're selling new for $999 here, and with the current us/canuk exchange rate that's about $200 less for a new bass than the guy on Ebay is selling that black one for.

I'm not fully in love with the look of them, but they're sleepers for sure. Lightweight, comfy necks, beefy and clear voiced pickups, and a lot of tone changes from the humbucker/single coil switching. Other than a few fugly lines in the look of them and the typical current Gibson fit and finish iffiness, they're very good basses and imo real bargains for a bass you can buy new under a grand. These are a great alternative to someone wanting to get into an american made bass who either can't afford a USA Fender or wants a Fender vibe bass that isn't an actual Fender.

Tonally they are distinctly passive sounding so none of the MM sizzle but they do have that MM fatness. I'd say they sit somewhere between a jazz and a musicman in sound.

This just hit Ebay and the seller posted in the EB thread here too.
And it's a white one!

Yeah I have to say, I'm really not into their look. And I'm usually the guy who gravitates towards more unusual shapes.
