Just Bought My First Carvin - Fingers Crossed

Post by jayceofbass »

Any of you who know me even a little will know that my tastes and style tend to run heavily in the direction of old, beat up, four strings. But, for those 5 or 6 times a year when I need a fiver I gotta have something. I just sold my Modulus because I just couldn't get around the wide spacing and 35" scale. Thought about going back to the tried and trusted EBMM SR5 but took a leap of faith on a Carvin instead. Based on the little research I did, the Carvin LB75 has almost the same dimensions neck and spacing wise as an SR5. (Or, hopefully close enough.) Plus, I wanted the piezo bridge option for some more versatility.

The only thing that's worrying me is the colour I chose. I ordered it on New Year's Eve and I may have been feeling a bit nostalgic - and a little tipsy - about the Larrivee 5 string electric that I had custom made when I was 18. It was really, really, REALLY YELLOW. Carvin didn't have a comparable yellow so I did what any mildly drunk nostalgic would do. I opted for Kiesel Racing Green. Mostly because it matched the Kawasaki KX250 I used to have when I raced motocross back then. (I also LOVED Charvels, Jacksons, Kramers etc when I was 18.) Oh well. No sense in feeling buyers remorse now. I did it to myself.

Anyway, here's the spec's:

LB75 - Maple neck through, swamp ash body
Icon style headstock - less pointy
Kiesel Racing Green
Black hardware
Single coil jazz p/u in the neck
MM style double coil - with tap - in the bridge
Piezo pickup
Ebony board

I'll let you know how it turns out and post some photos when it gets here in a couple months or so. In the meantime, if any of you want to reassure me that I didn't make a horrible mistake - nervous laughter - I would greatly appreciate it. :?
Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.

I'm sure you'll dig it, I'm VERY happy with my Carvin. The wait was the only drag.
