Can anyone recommend any particular gig bag that fits two basses? The ones I've had haven't lasted all that long and I need a new, hopefully studier, one. Mucho thanko in advance.

I have the Mono (M80 I think) - got it second hand on TB - it's pretty robust and easy to carry around.

I have 3 Mono bags, M80 Bass Case, M80 Dual Bass Case and the new Vertigo Bass Case with the guitar tick. They are great bags afford great protection, water proof, a lot of storage in the M80 bags. I attached a link to the Mono site, I purchased mine on eBay and amazon.

I've got two - one is made by Ibanez, and has wheels, and got it on eBay for $90.... and the second is a Ritter, which I also got off eBay, for I think it was $45... Two good bags, solid and well made. I usually use them to carry my bass in the first pocket, and my mic stand, bass stand, and folding music stand. They do quite well carrying all of the weight, and have held up well...

+1 for the MONO bag. I know I'm going to hear a collective gasp on this but I was forced to check mine on an airplane once. No damage to the basses or the bag. Also, it just fits a Thunderbird. That was key for me.

The winner is going to be MONO. Jay's comment about the Thunderbird puts it over the edge since I have one of those non-reverse Bachbirds. I've been taking it around in a gig bag with the headstock with a sock on it sticking out the top. Not an a) permanent solution, and b) cool. People's reactions:

I tried the T Bird in the Vertigo didn't fit now Ill try the M80. I bought a dean bag I was not happy with floppy no neck support. See what happens when your lazy

Yeah, let me be clear. My T-Bird just fits. Highlight on the "just". Zipper closes easily but the headstock does push up against the top of the bag. This doesn't seem to be a problem though since there's so much padding. It will definitely NOT cause any damage. As far as double bags go, this is the only one I found after some extensive research that would fit my bird. Even for a single it was rough. I have a Ritter bag that is actually made for a T-Bird and pretty much sucks.

I'll try to take a couple of picks when I get home this evening to put the fit into perspective for y'all.

Not sure what the status of Ritter bags is, but they were not distributed in the US anymore due to internal issues of the company (owner was getting divorced). I purchased my guitar double gig bag while they still had US distribution and it is a great gig bag.

Hey Y'all. Just getting around to posting these photos now. Here's how my T-Bird fits into my Mono double bag. The length is fine. The tightest part when closing the zipper is around the lower horn but it is perfectly acceptable and easy to close. The zippers on this thing are top notch. Way better than any gig bag I've ever owned. The padding and storage are spot on too. Not to mention - considering how heavy two basses and your cables etc. can be - the shoulder straps are downright comfy.

The dual Mono bag arrived yesterday. I got it used on Amazon for $213 (strange amount). Great stuff - thanks again!

I just got a Mono M80 single bag for my birthday a month ago, and love it! I traveled with a cheap gig bag and my old Squier, and actually never had any incident on an airplane, despite having flown with it 10-12 times a year with it. I was not surprised to hear that the Mono survived being checked on a plane.

Yeah, it looks I'm carrying a sarcophagus on my back. Maybe I'll paint an Egyptian face on the top

This is a good thread. My new lefty Thunderbird should be shipping out today from Southpaw (or Jim Hewett, who's setting it up). Assuming I like it and want to keep it, I'll need a gig bag. I live in NYC and often have to lug my bass around the subway, sometimes during rush hour. Hardshell cases are not an option. It's too bad my Incase Tour Bag won't fit it. I did email Mono about their cases and Brett, who replied, said that his Mike Lull T-Bass fits well into the M80, but is about 2" shorter than the Gibson. He was confused about reverse/non-reverse because of the lefty Thunderbird and was doubtful that it would fit. His last word was, "The non-reverse body is not really a good fit. It's just a bit too long. It will squeeze in there but could compromise the zippers and possibly damage your instrument." So really not sure, between the reverse/non-reverse, lefty factor, etc.

Thoughts?

The very tip of the non-reverse's headstock peaks through by an inch or so. I just put a couple of socks on it. I live in NYC too and other than looking stupid, everything seems to be holding on subways, cabs etc. I wouldn't put it in a baggage dept though if I was on a coach or plane.

BTW Hazmat - Did Gibson include a hard case with your new bass?

And yes, it should come with a hard case. That will be handy to have in case I need to travel with it.

The Reverse Thunderbird is considered the "regular" version as far as I know. It looks like this:

For whatever reason, it seems the Non-Reverse has a bigger headstock. Both images for lefty instruments.

Holy crap, that non-reverse headstock is HUGE. No, mine is the regular reverse one. So that should fit in the Mono M80, huh?
