If that is indeed the original finish, it looks like it was a custom color factory over-spray onto sunburst!!!

I thought Fender back in the day refinished colors over the stock sunburst. I know I read that.

Wasn't this bass just up for sale for 6500 or 7500 at a broker somewhere?

Hey Addison,
How can you tell it was overspray?

And now for sale on Gbase Bizarre Guitars for a whopping $9500. This guy seems to buy and instantly resell for quite the profit. Hey it's America right but jeez does he have to cop all the vintage lefty stuff?

I'm not 100% but it looks like you can see the yellow fullerplast base coat they used for sunburst finishes in the neck pocket.

Oversprays would happen when custom colors were ordered and no unfinished bodies were available... Or they would even overspray when someone screwed up a sunburst.

Pino Paladino's bass is a great example of an overspray.

This bass is in Australia, and I seem to recall a thread on Talkbass a year or so back regarding this bass. The seller's father was the original owner, and it had been stored for most of its life. I wonder if it sold, or he just pulled it...
