I saw those kits often on ebay. But I won't recommend it.
It is as cheap as it can get.

I heard that the hardware and pickups are the cheapest possible. So you have to replace them. This would cost more than the kit itself.
For this price the wood can't be high quality.

Why you spend many hours of hard work on an cheap DIY Kit, then to recognize, that the basis (the wood) is low quality.

You can also get good wood from a local luthier.

Never thought of this kit - or any kit - in these terms... as always, you get what you pay for... good post!

Thx, I just wanted to warn against those cheapo DIY kits.

Some people think of DIY that is cheaper than a bought product.
But DIY only means, that it is built by your own hands. And mostly it is more expensive than an bought chinese-built product.

The fun of DIY is to build something individual with your own hands, and not to save money.

I am building a DIY bass, right now. Its my first one, and I can't build all parts by myself. So I went to a local luthier, to get those parts, that I can't make or do not want to build myself. So I get high quality stuff, just how I want it, to a decent price.

Last Year i talked to a guy playing a P Bass builded from one of those kits.
He just upgraded it with some Bartolini P Pickup. The bass sounded totaly Killer.

He told me that his kit included a Alder Body, not a Basswood one. I don't know if he was right about it, but anyway it was the best sounding cheap bass i ever heard.
