what's with the knob layout? is that a thumb rest by the input jack? and is 21 frets correct?

Even with airfare, that's a good deal! (if it's legit)

Fender NEVER made a Precision bass with the string through the body option in those years. Could be a mod... it ain't factory.

Hey all, BOGUS alert: it's a 21 fret neck & Fender has NEVER made a 21 fret neck bass, lefty or righty, the neck is a Warmy I guess. The only 20+fret I've ever seen from them is on the older Deluxes(22), although the new righty only J Deluxes have a 21 fret neck. CAVEAT EMPTOR!! :ugeek:

Something really fishy with that.

That bridge and string through layout looks more like an old Hondo or Kramer to me. That neck is definitely aftermarket, too many frets and to my eye, it looks like the fingerboard is hanging over the pickguard a little.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.

This one appeared awhile ago and we discussed it here on the forum. It ain't a real 77 P bass. ALL 70's P basses have 20 frets. Headstock decal is also an aftermarket. Not to mention the string thru the body. I don't think Fender did that in the 70's.

I think everyone here knows its a fake Fender. There are a LOT of Fender experts on this board. It amazes me how sellers do this and expect some to believe its real. Someone should ask the seller to pull the neck and send a picture of the neck stamp.

Damn, I just looked at it again, and I think I know what it is. In '93, I bought a 1980 Stingray from Thoroughbred (that they got at a recent NAMM show), that had the original neck replaced with a maple/maple Chandler P-bass neck. I found the original neck (rosewood board) at the Bass Place in Arizona, bought it, and put it back on the 'Ray. That left me with the Chandler neck, and an old Hondo body with the string-thru bridge lying around, so I put it all together for a beater bass. I got rid of it shortly after, but it looked a lot like the bass in that ad. I'm now tempted to try to hook up with that guy just to verify.

The bottom pic shows the Hondo body with an '83 Fender P-bass neck on it.....what I did with that neck is an interesting story........
