Something tells me that since it is listed as international the reserve is waaaaaaay higher than 3k and someone in Paris is dreaming a little too much

Actually, the sunburst over white, or any color over other one was common practice. As I understand, Fender would finish bodies and have them in storage. If an order came in for a color that wasn't in stock, they would simply paint it over. Moreover, in 1969 they would use poly for the undercoat and nitro on top, and naturally nitro wears off quicker, leaving the undercoat exposed, in this case white. Although I'm not sure if only the "clear" undercoat was poly, and all colors were nitro (so in this case, both the white and the sunburst are nitro).

That bass reminds me of this minty 1970 P-Bass that was for sale maybe 10 years ago for $2000 at New Jersey Guitar and Bass Center. Wish I would have bought it.

That bass is worth at least $3000. I suspect the reserve is at $4000 or so.

talked to the seller he did not want to tell me the reserve but he hinted somewhere in the $5000-$5500 range

The prices are completely crazy in France. I've spoke recently with Yves Carbonne about some of his old jazz, and I couldn't believe what the market was over there. Oh well. There still that 1960 at 5999 that I'm still gasing for though

If the bass is 100% original for sure (we are talking about a 60s lefty) i guess it's a slightly high price (from a European point of view) ...

Sold for $5000. Only $4001 more than I could have afforded.
