Hey guys,
I have a question in re to the Eastwood Classic 4 bass and the DiPinto Belvedere Standard basses. (I hope I'm, posting this in the right spot on the forum) My question is directed to all that have played one of (or both) of these basses. My question is, how would you rate the overall playability of these basses? In particular, the string spacing at the bridge and overall feel of the neck?
I'm interested in purchasing one of these basses (lefty of course) and unfortunately, do not have the opportunity to try either one of them out. I really don't want to buy one without trying it and then have to either send it back or re-sell it because it does'nt fit what I'm used to. So I'm looking for some help and insight from those of you who have played one of these instruments. I'm pretty much a Fender or Fender style guy so I'm looking for something similar in neck width and string spacing.

Played the Eastwood Classic 4 bass and own 2 DiPinto Belvedere Standard basses. Comparing either to a Fender (assuming we're talking about a Precision or Jazz) is kinda difficult, not much in common there but I'm sure you know that already. In both cases the string spacing is probably a bit more narrow, but if you like the feel of a thin Fender Jazz neck, the Di Pinto would certainly be the better way to go...and the biggest difference is that the Di Pinto being a 34" long scale neck (same as a Fender) is certainly closer in feel to a Fender vs. the short scale Eastwood, where the neck would remind you more of a Gibson bass neck.

I always wanted a classic 4 but some of the reviews i have read about quality control has made me nervous.

Agreed on the QC issue. I should probably also mention that while the classic 4 isn't bad, the Di Pinto is certainly the better sounding bass IMO.

I was leaning towards the Dipinto based upon stuff that I've heard and read about it as well as the Eastwood. My main concern was the width of the neck and the string spacing. I've heard that the Dipinto's neck was similar to that of a Ric and as much as I love Rics, I just can't play them comfortably. I had an '81 Ric 4003 for years and recently sold it due to it never being played. Just a bit nervous about having the same issue with the Dipinto. Now I just need to sell off a "Parts" P bass to cover the cost of the Dipinto!
