Nut replacement

Post by bassmasta76 »

Hi,

I recently bought a nice MIM Fender Jazz bass while I was traveling in California. I think they installed a right-handed nut in the bass and want to replace it... I've been looking at Tusq and other products but am curious to see what the general opinion is here with other Lefties. Left-handed nuts seem to be hard to come by... at least, the pre-cut versions are.. Just looking for suggestions. My luthier offered to shape a blank Tusq nut for me but Im not sure if I want to go that route or just find a cheaper method.

thanks in advance,

a good ol' bone nut is my preference. even a reasonably competent tech can craft you a decent nut from a blank. depending on how difficult you current nut is to remove, you're porbably looking at $50 or less for the job

all the best,
