It's been a good week for lefties, and I know more than a few of you are looking for one of these:
'81 Ibanez Musician
UK shipping indicated, but perhaps the seller's willing to ship overseas.
P.S. if somebody can show me how to rename a link, I can avoid having to post a huge address here.

You can cut off everything behind the auction number, so that just leaves
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0717023506
. It will then show the currency in British Pounds Sterling though.
Or you could use BBcode to cover it up:
name of the link here
I've seen it (I know the seller from basschat.co.uk, he linked to the auction there), and had already sent Carmine a PM about it

Fixed link. Thanks, Jeroen.
I tried a search of one of our past conversations about these basses where you had offered an opinion of the tonal differences between the Musicians with the dual Super 4 PUPs vs. the Super P5/J5 combo (which I have), but couldn't locate it. This bass has the dual Super 4s. What was your opinion on the PUP differences again?

It's in the reviews-section:
http://www.leftybassist.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1440
They're two completely different beasts, sonically. My '83 with the Super P5/J5 is a very versatile bass which will handle anything from a Precision growl to a hifi slap tone. The '81 with the Super 4's has more personality of its own. It's brighter, has a nice and agressive highmid growl (actually, it can almost get down to a gnarl). The '81 is my favourite because it really has a character all of its own, but I play the '83 more often because it fits in everywhere
In the comparison, I wrote:
The 1981, with its Super 4 singlecoils with large MM-like exposed pole pieces, sounds bright and articulate. The neck pickup soloed sounds big and woody but retains a lot of definition and clarity with plenty of mids. The bridge pickup soloed sounds fairly weak and thin, but adding some bass on the onboard EQ beefens up the tone for a nice Jaco-like growl. The middle switch position produces great tones for both fingerstyle, pickstyle and slap. The preamp is remarkably natural-sounding and adds almost no colour to the tone when the bass is switched from passive to active, and the EQ is very effective. The preamp gain pot is very clever, and has a center indent. In the center position there is absolutely no increase or decrease in volume when switching from active to passive. The gain pot enables you to setup an EQ preset, and boost and cut the overall level so you can switch between two different tones. The overall tone is harmonically richer in active mode though, so I rarely play it in passive mode.
The 1983, with its PJ-style pickups, produces a more balanced tone and is more versatile than the 1981. The neck pickup soloed indeed sounds very similar to a Precision Bass, and is remarkably quiet. The tone is a bit tighter and more refined than that of a real Precision though. The bridge pickup soloed, being placed very close to the bridge, again sounds a bit thin and weak. It's warmer than the bridge pickup of the 1981 though. It's not nearly as quiet as the neck pickup, a constant hum is audible when you're not playing. In the inbetween positions of the balance pot this hum is still clearly audible, but quieter than the bridge pickup soloed.

Thanks for finding it.
I agree completely about the buzz of the P5/J5 style. Mine has the same problem.

Holy shit, in the last remaining seconds the bidding went crazy. That went for a lot of money!
Did you get it, Carmine?

Insane!

Now I don't feel so bad about what I overpaid for mine a couple of years go.

Wow, the final price was rather silly wasn't it.

Well, lefties are very rare, and these are considered the Rolls Royce of vintage Ibanez basses. Still, I never would have guessed it would go that high, so somebody obviously wanted it at any cost. if they continue to climb in market value, that price might seem like a bargain in a few years.

I paid about 400 euros each for mine about a year ago, and I see most righthanded ones go for about 400-500. I always thought those were common prices. So this auction really baffled me, this one went for almost 2.5 times what I paid.
