Paris

just got back from a suprise trip to Paris (surprise for my wife, but loads of planning by me) where I celebrate my 25th anniversary. my wife knew we were heading out, but she had no idea that I burned several years worth of frequent flyer miles for business class seats, and an equally large volume of hotel points for a room with a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower. I made certain not to mention this trip anywhere cuz she's a crafty person who mould just possibly be a member in disquize here on LB so she can keep tabs on me (time to fess up if you're here, dear )

things got really complicated when my employer found an unused plethora of funds set aside in case the economy worsened, and I found myself on last minute business trips to Mesa, AZ and Huntsville, AL ... getting home the day before heading off to Paris. I had a pile of things that I never got completed (even working into the wee hours each evening) thanks to that dratted business travel


anyway, Paris was a wonderful trip (first anniversary I've been 'home' to share together in nearly 10 years!) that also yeilded a couple nice images

This is probably my last post for the coming week - I have several basses I intended to ship out before flying off to Paris that need to get their final set-ups tweaked so they can be packaged and shipped out.

Congratulations on 25 years Rod (we celebrated 30 years with some of our oldest and closest friends around us last year - it's a good feeling isn't it?).

I've never been to Paris (odd since we live about a 3 hour train ride away ) but it's on our 'to do' list for (probably) next year. Jan's been (many years ago) and keeps saying we must go - we've been to France twice but never got to Paris itself. It really is one of the most beautiful cities in the world IMHO - unless you're driving, that is..

I'm actually getting to be somewhat decent at playing a lefty bass strung lefty. How else can I know when the bass is set-up just right unless I can play it in the configuration it was built to. it was the same thing for me when I was building 6-string basses

I haven't taken one out on a gig yet, but the day is getting rather close that I do. right now it's just getting the confidence to commit to a lefty bass for a song (or more) in a live setting when the pressure to perform is on. I can play here in my shop just fine (OK, I'm not playing Cream or Rush on a lefty yet ... but I do have personal goals to succeed on these eventually) - and I find that some things are easier to play lefty than righty

I do like Paris quite a bit, and it grows on me each time I return. it's definitely has a unique vibe compared to any other large city I've visited multiple times.

Do you mean playing a lefty strung lefty but holding it righthanded and playing upside down, or do you actually play them lefthanded? In the latter case, if you practice long enough, you could become the Michael Angelo Batio of bass
