Long lost Jaco photos found!

As I have mentioned here in the past, I used to go see Jaco in NYC often throughout the early-mid-80's. He'd play the usual jazz circuit: Blue Note, Seventh Ave. South, etc. I was at one of his performances one night at the Blue Note in 1984, had 1st row seating, and snapped a few photos. After years of having them around the house, I misplaced them for about 20 years. Well, I found them at the bottom of an old cedar trunk I have!

These are not complete to the best of my memory, so I'll have to see if I can find more. Mike Stern was the guitarist that night, an you can just catch a glimpse of him on the right side of one of the photos, but I know there was definitely a full length shot of him too that I can't find. The percussionist that night was also Don Alias.

I had the incredible bittersweet opportunity to play a gig with Jaco (He played my lefty '72 J upside down!). And, a few months soon after, he was gone. I've told that story before, so I'll skip it here for now. In the meantime, enjoy these! (Sorry for the jumbo size)

Wow... great pics, and the sizes are just right! I'm surprised you were able to take pics that night, or was the club cool with cameras? And, very quickly, if you don't mind, what year is Jaco's bass? A very well-worn player, indeed....

This is his fretted '60 Fender Jazz. The fretless "Bass of Doom" bass was a '62.

Holy shit, man! Thank you for sharing. You could probably sell those for good money to a magazine or website. . . (thinking out loud).

So I was doing a bit of gear noodling, and found this:

It's so cool that the exact cab and bass in this article pic, including strap, were those at your gig.......... I think my mind just exploded...

Interesting that he's playing through an Ampeg head with some form of MXR Rack system.
