weekend update: the neck shaft perimeter has been trimmed. I did a smooch of rasp/sanding clean-up that I'd typically do after the fretboard had been attached so the images would be cleaner





as is clearly obvious - the headstock still needs to have the tuner holes drilled and the outline cut. that requires another hold-down tool to be built ... and that's a project for next week.

once the headstock positioning tool and headstock are completed, I'll engage on the fretboard shaping hold-down tooling ... and then begin work on the first Maple/Maple FAI neck

I have continued to make optimization tweaks to this since last posting, but completion of this with a fully assembled/painted prototype unit fell victim to available end of 2012 year budget constraints. since most of my available investment budget flew away into a couple key tooling upgrade purchases, I had to choose which new model was most appropriate to have ready for the upcoming NAMM show (and the 24-fret angled headstock double cut bolt-on won out over the single-cut and neck-thru designs due to new sales potential numbers)

good news is that the lower horn tweak on the 24-fret double-cut will find its way into this design when the first production units finally premier in the first half of 2013

Just discovered this thread, great stuff! I have been poking around in the woods up here on Vancouver island of late and finding very interesting maple stumps with birdseye, spalting and interesting figuring. Also found an immense Arbutus stump with a massive birdseye burl on it that I'm going to cut off in the next couple of weeks. Not sure if I'm going to save it and get into building down the road or save it and send it to a builder and have something made after it's cured. Lots to to be learned and your stuff about CNC fabrication is very interesting. Please keep posting!
