I say Vintage is just French for trash can but this is cool

Post by thumbslam »

Vintage Guild JS11 : I’m one that simply hates old “vintage” gear. I don’t like old beat up noisy crappy sounding basses. I always say to everyone the term “vintage” is French for trash can! But it's like a small dog that is just so ugly I want to take it home and cuddle. I normally hate this kind of thing and its beat down Tina Turner was but man O man I think this I would buy I even like the case. The whole thing has like a Keith Richards suave out all night no sleep for 6 days cool thing going. Like this is old dirty and crusty and sounds bad and what are you gonna do about it punk??? Very Philadelphia, I like it I am going to bid!

Awesome, gotta love this. Those huge-ass humbuckers sound amazing, very big and bold (and muddy, in a cool way). Very rare lefthanded! I'm sure Peter will be tempted too ;)

Can only be played thru a 30 year old Kustom bass rig using a 20' coiled cord.
No effects, No modifications. No exceptions.

Cool indeed. I've heard this seller is sketchy though. Proceed with caution.

Yep, I spotted this well, along with the lefty Gibson EBO that just sold for $660(!), which I assumed everyone spotted as well but were keeping their mouths shut so they could swoop in last minute. Turns out, nobody swooped in, so even though that bass had a headstock repair $660 for a vintage lefty EBO is a steal.

Now onto the JS II: I won't be bidding. As much as I like it, there's a few non-original things about it preventing me. First, these basses were never made with that 3 point bridge, they had the same bridge with rosewood saddles that the Starfires had, so that's an aftermarket mod and means the body had to have been routed for it. Second, the truss rod cover's missing; thirs, I don't think the Schaller tuners are original either.

If it ends up going for $300, I'll kick myself for not bidding, but with the mods I wouldn't value it past $500.

My guess is that it goes for WAY more than $500 with all the lefty bassists alerted here! {:^)

Much repect for your 74 Jazz and I'm sure it kicks ass it's just not my cup-o-tea. I'm a man of simple pleasures. Girls with tight sweaters, jeans, and new basses. It's in my genes I can't help it. I'm sure if your 74 Jazz fell into my hands I would give it much love but don't tell anyone.

thumbslam, I'll sell you my '74 Lefty Jazz and you can have your "trash-can" bass as well.... ha!! In all honesty, gotta be careful with these basses that are sold as "All Original and Mint". Too many times I have been burned and now with the new ebay rules, it scares me to be a seller.

Andrew, search just about any musical gear BB out there and you will hear nothing but bad news about Gravity Gear. Apparently they mis-represent their gear a lot, tho I've never had the pleasure of a 1st-hand experience with them ( Thank God!).

Correction: meant to say 2 point bridge. The 3 pointers came later.

Gravity has a rating on eBay of 99.1% with 32,039 transactions. They got to be doing something right sometimes. My experience is the most likely have had more than 40K but people a lot of time doesn’t leave feedback unless they want to bitch. I have 73 at 100% but I know it should be over 100 transactions. If those people were pissed that bought anything from me you bet they wouldn't have missed a perfectly good opportunity to bash someone or put somebody down basically anonymously for the world to see. I try to see the good in people but there is shady dudes around too.

I am not going to go on a tangent here..... I had a bad experience and lied to. I will not give them my business again. Lie to a customer when he proves you wrong is simply not cool. Done..... Good luck guys!!

$1,180.00 Say What!! Well one man's treasure is another man's trash can. I would never put that kind of money into that thing. I thought it was a cool novelty.
