MIJ 32" scale Squire P bass $500 - Reverb

Appears to be a 32" Scale. Although I believe there were 30" scale produced too.

The advert information from the seller were wrong.
Only the Precision Model 32" was available as Left handed Version and only offered 1986 and 1987 according pricelist.
Available in black (506) or arctic white (580)
These lefties were definitely Made in Japan, as end of 1987 production moved from Japan to Korea.

The bodies were basswood.
The design effort that Fender Japan (in Japan itself the bass was sold as a Fender, the models for export were identical, but labelled as Squier) has made here is remarkable:
They didn't just screw a shorter neck onto your P-Bass body. The whole instrument has been scaled down so that the perfect ergonomics of a Precision bass are retained.

I have a 1986 in artic white, I love this Bass: great playability, great tone, lightweight, Japanese crafts work on a small budget

I see this has been sold... it was mentioned above that this is a good deal... wasn't aware that Squires can command this kind of resale value... so, what does this bass list for new? I suppose that just goes to show the build quality that Fender mandates for either Mexican, or Chinese models, considering how they listed for half this much when they first entered the marketplace...

As mentioned above the JV Squier from 82 are the most sought after early Japan Fender instrument.
From a lefty perspective you do not have a big bandwith when it comes to early Japan Fenders as not many models werde made as left handed.
That’s why this low budget 32 scale PB 331 is a really great lefty deal.

Can confirm. I have no experience with their basses of that era, but my main guitar for the last 15+ years has been a Squier E-series Strat (1984-1987) with several modifications and upgrades. The woods, finish, fretwork and all of the hardware (Gotoh) are all great but I felt it lacked in the electronics department. It now sports DiMarzio pickups (two Blue Velvets and a Pro Track), CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and switch, Graphtech nut and string trees and Schaller locking tuners that I had laying around. I love it to death, and would never sell it. I've had an American-made Fender Tele, 3 American-made G&L's, an American-made Music Man Silhouette Special, a spectecular French-made Lag and several Fujigen-made Ibanez and Jackson guitars, but this Squier is the one I keep coming back to.

In the meantime I've also acquired a Squier Silver Series Strat from 1991, also made in Japan, but despite feeling very similar it's not as good as my trusty white E-series.
