Fender Precision Player Plus Active

Post by pjmuck »

This shop is running a special on these basses, and the price is right. (I already ordered the white one. Should be here Tuesday). They have a SB and a Belair Blue still left:

I payed one of these once and was blown away by how good it sounded. Please send us a review once you've put it through its paces.

I have one, have used it live for about 8 gigs.

Yup, the eq does sound great. It however significantly increases the volume overall. The mid knob is extremely powerful and REALLY raises the volume. It is way louder than the passive mode. This is a
Huge problem if you uses more than 1 Vass during a set. Switching basses causes a big chance in volume regardless if the other basses are passive or active.

For me this was a big problem. I took out the preamp. I only bought it because I wanted a pj fender and I like the pearl white.

Other than this issue for me, awsome Otherwise

Just received mine yesterday and I concur about the volume jump, especially when switching from passive to active. That's usually the case with most active/passive basses, but this particular one has a major jump as you mentioned. I sometimes switch between active and passive basses live, so I run my basses through a Boss LS2 pedal, which allows me to balance the output of each bass (up to 3, BTW) to avoid that specific problem.

I'll be taking mine out for some gigs this weekend, so I'll give a full report after.

I got a price on one at Chuck Levin's. It is a demo, Belair Blue in perfect shape. $1000 with a gig bag. Nice weight and the neck was very comfortable & played great. I'm a one pickup tone vol guy, so I passed on it. Shipping cost if any might make or break the deal. They have a 30 day return policy.

The sale is over on these, so they're back to the going rate of $1149.99.
