Explorer Bass

Post by donahue »

I'd like to try an explorer shaped bass by any brand. They are too scarce to be picky so I'll take a look at any type, homebuilt, custom etc. Thanks

Due to their scarcity, I just bought a righty Epiphone Ltd Korina Explorer bass. It looks cool upside down. Great bass too. I've just put on a new nut and have new strings to put on it. I really like it.

I appreciate the idea and I'm not opposed to flipping some basses such as Thunderbirds etc, but flipping an Explorer turns that instrument into a whole different beast imo.

That’s true. I dig the look of either, but if it doesn’t do it for you, it’s bad to be stuck with a bass you’re not sold on. Happy hunting.

My lefty Gibson Explorer will probably be here in a couple of weeks. Waiting patiently. Worth it.

Do they make Lefty Explorer Kits? Could be a fun project!

I used to own a lefty Gaskell Explorer copy, but I sold it a few years ago. I don';t believe Gaskell is still in business any more.

Edit: Perhaps they still are? Though the prices he';s asking now are through the roof.

I've also seen lefty Fernandez copies. other than that, you could take a gamble on a Chinese knockoff and hope it doesn't require major surgery:

Further to this, you could buy a DIY kit from these guys and send it off to be finished any way you'd like. I bought an Ibanez Iceman kit from them a few years ago:
