This is a picture of a righty Fender P-bass I found on talkbass.com (I obviously flipped it with my super-duper expert computer skills)

I would love this (as it appears)...to have the backwards Fender logo and Precision information would make this bass very unique...to me THIS is the perfect P-bass for me. Black body, black pickguard and maple neck.

Can anyone tell me where you can get an authentic Fender neck with maple fretboard? (and on that note, do they usually come with frets on them or do you need to buy frets...and how much does it usually run to replace a fretboard and install frets if need be?)

Then you need a 1970's era Precision and most I've seen on the 'Bay are in the $2000 territory.

You would be able to do a parts build for about half that.

If you need to stay real inexpensive I believe that you can get a black n maple P style SX from Rondomusic. Lots of people like them and if you decide to do a few mods it won't break the bank.

If you just want a Fender style maple/maple neck Warmoth is the way to go (USACG is good too but a bit more expensive). You could order it with frets or not. The Warmoth m/m neck is $167 if you want them to put a finish on it it will cost you $100 more.

Actual Fender lefty necks are few and far between on e-bay and most of the ones I've seen from ebay merchants like "The Strat-ophere" (they are a chopshop that parts out mostly MIJ Fenders) go for well over $200.

Fender replacement bridge and tuners
pickguard off eBay
bottle of TruOil gunstock finish (neck and body)
sand paper - 200 thru 1200 grit


this should give you something will all of the snarl of the bass pictured, but at a significantly lower overall cost


I'm really starting to like the MightyMite necks - they just have the right feel that a chunky Warmoth neck is missing. I've used a couple of them now and been impressed each and every time

I see them on occasion. I'll have to remember to keep an eye out and drop a note here next time I see one. they usually go for around $100, and many times this includes shipping

I'm currently waiting on a Warmoth Maple/maple unlined fretless neck to replace the one on my Squire. I plan to do the Tru-oil and lacquer myself.

To the best of my knowledge, Fender has never made a lefty bass with the TV logos included (either "Jazz Bass" or "Precision Bass". If you look at the design of the typeface, it doesn't really lend itself to work on a lefty headstock unless you were to read it right to left.

That P-bass is absolutely wicked. Is it a string-thru body? I'm just curious, because I like my strings to have a lot of tension...which is why I use bigger strings anyways (not to mention they just look sick).

I'm assuming mostly pre-made parts would be the easiest/simplest/least time consuming method of constructing a bass like that. If the cost would be less than say, the cost of a brand new Fender American Standard P-bass, that would be great. Thats not saying that I would definitely have you build it for me, I'm just curious as to how much it would cost to have you build it. After looking at all the stuff you've made and the pics you posted, I would say I am impressed with your work.

No, it was a standard Fender top load bridge which the first owner replaced with a BadAss.
