Warmoth G&L hibrid (Pandemic Edition)

Post by paulo »

I've wanted to post pics of this here for a while now and keep forgetting.
Since there's been a lot of Wamoth activity here I've also wanted to share these pics with you guys.
About an year and a half ago I came across a 1983 G&L SB-1 body loaded on Talkbass so I bought it.
Sold the body and kept the electronics, knobs and bridge with the hope to build a lefty with the parts.
After a while a bridge pickup popped up on Ebay so I bought.
Then the Warmoth body popped up on their site, it was a 54P Precision body. It was on their site for a while for sale so I bought it and ordered a neck as well.
Once the body and neck arrived I applied a few coats of tung oil to the body and one coat of tung oil on the neck and took the parts to a pro to have it routed for the bridge and pickups.
The 3 way switch came in my old 77 PJ Precision and I used it in this bass.
Specs:
54 PB body, Mahogany with quilted maple top, maple neck with rosewood fretboard and the smallest/thinnest frets available. Hipshot Ultralite tuners (installed backwards lol) and pickups, pots, knobs and bridge from the 83 G&L SB-2.
I measured Tim's 83 SB'2 for refference and had the pickups installed in the exact same position.
Best Frankenbass ever!

Thanks guys! This bass turned out better than I expected, now I just need to find a spare time to flip the tuners to proper left position

How do those pickups sound? Like a single-coil with a bit of humbucker flavor?

Are they over-wound jazz pickups?
