Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
That’s pretty cool.
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
Curious about that one larger rotary dial.
from the Sweetwater page:
"As you turn the Jack Casady Signature Bass's VariTone control, you shift its tone from even dynamics and full tone to a punchier response with a narrower sound and plenty of bite. This gives you an absolutely massive sonic palette to play with!"
It sounds like they are saying the Varitone control sweeps through the settings continuously changing. Is that right? or is it just a 3 position selector?

Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
It's not really a Varitone, it's a 3-position impedance switch. It does affect the tone a lot though
There was a thread about these recently, Carmine described it nicely:

Raising the impedance also raises the output level and changes the tonal characteristics- the output gets louder and more aggressive as the numbers go up from 50-250-500. The little internal transformer box isn't working that hard (so while it might in some sense work hardest in one of those positions, it is not going to heat up or burn out, etc.) and no batteries, special cable etc. is required.

Oh man. So cool! Not too heavy either.
Remembered these demo videos that give you a pretty good idea of how the impedance switch actually sounds:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mPaPXgZlLKE
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NBDdcxJFxi8
You could almost describe it as an “oomph” switch. Ha
I imagine it would sound great in front of a good overdrive pedal, or to push your amp a bit more.

There's no stock on these. Says, "Available soon" which is all I've ever seen on these anywhere since they were first mentioned. (What, did they make 1 of them?). Were they ever released???

Sorry I bought the last one they had in stockpjmuck wrote:There's no stock on these. Says, "Available soon" which is all I've ever seen on these anywhere since they were first mentioned. (What, did they make 1 of them?). Were they ever released???
I wonder how many they had and if anyone else here got one.
When I last saw it said they had it in stock and it was ready to ship.

Nice. Looked like they only had the one in stock, bet they didn’t make many...
Be sure to share what you think about it!

Hey Paulo, how's that jack casady treating you?
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
I haven't had a lot of time with it but I tell you, this is well worth the money.leftybassatl wrote:Hey Paulo, how's that jack casady treating you?
The finish, feel, look and sound of this bass are all fantastic.
Totally different thing comparing to the Gibson Midtown but they are both amazing basses in different ways.
I'm gonna take some pictures soon but here are some pics they sent me by email:

Sweetwater has another Casady in stock. Someone please buy it before my will power fails and that sweetwater financing gets the best of me
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
I just ordered one
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
I got a message from Sweetwater that they were in.
I'd get one if I didn't already get such a great hollow sound from my Hofner. The JC bass would be superfluous for me and would be a fun purchase instead of a necessary one. So I'm going to pass on it.

I snagged one yesterday.

This thread is killing me. I have yet to do anything about it, and I might lose the opportunity if I wait too long, but alas, it's killing me.

They said there were enough shipped to cover pre-orders...plus I got one. Now it looks like the one that popped up on their site is gone. Sorry man, there will probably be more though.rdavidson wrote:This thread is killing me. Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
There will be more. I pre-ordered just now. Probably December.

This is great. If they sell enough, maybe we'll get another color. It looks great, I just don't dig gold personally.
Re: Epiphone Jack Casady Lefty @ Sweetwater
I broke down and ordered it. I think I got the second to last one. The 36 months zero interest pushed me over the edge. It's "almost" like free money
I read some of the other threads on this bass and watched the videos about the pickup. I get it. But I do have one question: Will it make any difference if I run it from 1/4" to XLR input on a bass amp? I assume all the videos are 1/4" to 1/4" instrument cable into an amp, but with the low impedance pup, would it change if I run into XLR input on an amp? I'm reading Frenchy-Lefty's comments on this thread, http://leftybassist.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 1&start=20
