Never heard of Lado, but that looks a lot like a Rico era BC Rich. Very cool.

It must be another Japanese brand made in the same factory like they used to do back in the day...?

Nope.

Lado is a Canadian brand that was popular back in the late 70's and 80's. The guy behind it was Joe Kovacic. A Croatian immigrant to Canada. He started it in the small town of Uxbridge, ON about 70kms northeast of Toronto. Eventually moving closer to the city and relocating in Scarborough, ON (east end of Toronto). LOTS of big names in rock used them. The most famous bassist I can think of was Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. He had a couple of signature Lado designs back in the day. Eventually Joe moved up to my home town of Lindsay, ON - 150kms north east of Toronto - and started a luthier school. He still made instruments up until very recently. But I think he's retired now.

I lusted after a Lado when I was a kid. If I had the cash I'd buy this one for sure. They were very high end instruments. Everything was made by hand.
Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.

“Lado is a Canadian brand...”

What a cool bass. I love that there are still these little gems to find out there.

Sorry, I don’t know how to quote site members like y’all usually do.

By hitting the Quote button at the bottom right of a post :)

Very cool bass, indeed very BC Rich-like, especially that wild control layout!

Here's a pic of Steve Harris with his custom painted Falcon (or Falcon II... not sure), and another pic of a Steve Harris custom one in a T-Bird kinda shape.

Yep, I lusted over the Lado ads in Guitar player mag back in the day.
Never realized they offered them lefty.
