I've never seen a lefty with this finish.

Unless it’s a refin, I wonder if maybe it’s a midnight blue one that had some serious clear coat yellowing? You tend to see that on fender’s lake placid blue finishes that have aged clear coats. Turns them green. Either way, it’s gorgeous.

Two colors that come close to that in Rick's timeline are turquoise, which was offered on and off as early as '54-57, then retired for decades and reinstated again from '91-03. But there was also a color called, Blueburst that's close to that color that only ran in '05.

I think this is a turquoise lefty, possibly late '03, unless the color did run over briefly into '04. Only way to know would be if we knew the serial #.

Yeah, I'm thinking turquoise, too. Pretty rare color - especially on a lefty. Blueburst was Rick's next-to-last Color Of The Year offering, in 2005. It was very popular, too - I think the production ran into the next year, in fact. But, don't hold your breath waiting for a lefty BB 4003. Several years ago, over on the RickResource Forum, they pinned John Hall down on the subject; he finally admitted that there were only SIX lefty 4003s made in that color. And, yes, I want one too... I have a 4003 in Rick's 2001 COY; Desert Gold. John Hall's said there were very few instruments made in that color; because of extreme difficulty getting a consistent finish, they cut production short. Last time I checked the RickRegister, there were only about 30 Desert Gold instruments on there. My bass was the only lefty anything registered. There's considerable speculation by people who should know, that it's the only one of it's kind. I bought it used, but apparently unplayed; I treat it Very gently.... ;)

I never really "got" what a Rick is capable of until I ran it stereo a few times in my college band. We used to call it the "Piano of Doom". You get all the bottom and all the top in total a**kicking mode.

I always thought a Rick in a silver finish with black pickguard looks stunning. Not sure if lefties even exist though.
