So are these basses the holy grail of left handed Ibanez? It sure is a beautiful bass. And one, that just by looking at it, looks great to play. Paulo, you have a really nice collection. I'm eagerly waiting for the Paulo's Collection thread in the photo gallery. :P :P

Thanks! :P
That is indeed a good idea!
It would be nice if more people could put their basses here in this session also...
Since you've mentioned, you're the next! :)

Probably! Rumour has it only around 250 lefty MC924's were built, making them quite rare. These are very high-quality instruments, built like a tank with very modern features for its time. Active onboard EQ was still very special back then, Ibanez and Music Man were probably among the first mass-produced active basses. And these have two tuned steel rods in the neck to eliminate dead spots and wolf tones, which was quite unusual for its time. I love them!

They're not the rarest of lefty Ibanez instruments though. Try finding the guitar version, or an original production AS200, or old 5-string 800-series Soundgears, ATK305, and the incredibly rare Axstar :P

I own one as well. Ironic that I had to get mine from an overseas seller too. (Netherlands) I'm guessing certain lefty basses like this one and the Aria Pro SB1000 were more prevalent and/or limited to European distribution only, as that's another bass I've only seen available lefties from UK owners.

There was a lefty Musician listed on Reverb over a year ago. According to the seller, lefties were only made in 1981, but I'm pretty sure mine is an '82:

Didn't Sting play a fretless Ibanez Musician in the early days of The Police?

I do need to post mine in here. I'm proud of my collection as of late. It's the darn photo uploading here. It's soooo 2005

I wish we had the talkbass forum format here so bad. It's just so easy. Plus, I'd "like" most of Tim's posts here because that dude is hilarious. I'll try to get to posting some pics here with stories. It'll be like VH1 Storytellers minus the music....and fame, and skills...mainly just the story part.

I have a righty too, an ST924 that I was given for free by a customer that had kept it unused in a gigbag in his garage. It suffered a little from the moist air, especially the end of the fingerboard, but it is playable and sounds amazing. Weighs a TON.

Mine are 1981 and 1983, that claim is definitely false. :P

Honored, Pat. But my wife curses you for encouraging me. :D
