NOBD: '96 Alembic Epic 4 string

Post by belinmad »

So,
this one seems to have gone under the radar - I picked it up on EB a few weeks ago for roughly $1700, which I think it's a pretty decent price considering I've seen this model always above 2.5k, and it goes new for 6k!

After a bit of research, this is what I know about it: Mahogany body with Wenge top and Maple accent, Maple neck and Ebony fingerboard, 2MXY pickups and vol, pan, bass, treble controls.

After a bit of tuning work, it plays like butter and it's really comfortable, light and well balanced! I'm happy to add it to the collection.

You can send Mica the serial number and she'll tell you exactly how it was built.
I've owned two - a spoiler and a distillate - never should have let them go.

Very Nice! I bought a '94 from a forum member a couple of years back... posted pics and info on the Alembic website, but for some reason, Mica never got back to me. Got to try again, now that your's is up here....

Thanks, and so is yours! I posted mine up in their serial lookup section, so hopefully this time around Mica will give me some info. If you get a chance, check out my post/thread (look for fivebass52), I have more pictures there.... They no longer make this bass, so we have a potentially classic model! I like this body shape myself, but it's not for everyone... Enjoy!

I have one, too. Also a 4-string '96, but it looks like fivebass52's. It IS a nice bass (it's an Alembic, after all), but I think the previous owner messed the pre-amp settings up, 'cause it sounds very, very thin and twangy. I've never gotten around to poking around inside the thing; I just play something else - usually my 4001 Rick. And, nice as it is, I don't think it would be my go-to bass, anyway... :)

I haven't gotten comfortable with the tone and eq settings yet... seems as if it's a bit too clean for me to use as a go-to bass... still it's a beauty, I got it for an incredible price, and - it's an Alembic! There's No-Way I could ever afford to own one... especially the new builds - prices are outrageous these days!
