70s Era Fender Jazz Bass Neck

Post by Matt R. »

Hi guys. I think it's come time to replace the neck on my beloved '74 Jazz. I had a ton of work done to it almost 3 years ago, but it's developed another twist and I'm not interested in sinking more cash into this neck.
So, if anyone runs across a 70s Jazz neck, please let me know. I can't afford to buy at this very moment, but I figured I'd better start putting feelers out since it'll probably be a tough find.

The current neck has a maple board with pearl blocks & white binding. That's what I prefer, but I'd take one with a rosewood board too. Must be a neck in good condition. No twists, warps or frozen truss rods. ;)
Thanks!

Forgot to mention, the current neck is also a 4 bolt. I'd consider a later 3 bolt version if I need to. I imagine it could be doweled and fitted properly.

I'm not 100 percent sure but I think the top 2 holes line up and you only need to drill 2 new holes at the lower end. Don't think you should have to dowel at all. I believe I've seen more than a couple on Ebay done like that, but I'm old as hell and I probably won't even remember I posted this in the morning!

Yeah, I was thinking that those 2 holes on a 3 bolt would be the same spacing as a 4 bolt. Next time I have the neck off of my '78 I'll check.

As Wolf said the top 2 holes line up perfectly with the top 2 holes in a 4 bolt.
The 78 neck that I had was used in a 4 bolt neck before I bought it.
I even tried it in a Squier jazz body and worked well.

That '78 three-bolt neck Paulo mentions was mine. I used it in a four-bolt configuration.
Wondering if he still has that blue jazz bass that he might consider parting out.

Thought about that. Looks like he sold it.
