Ibanez GSR206 6 String $199

Post by paulo »

This is very tempting since I've been curious about trying a 6 strings but I'm taking it easy for a while...!
Not to mention this bass has the best pictures ever taken by GC... They probably hired a pro just for that bass

Paulo, I bought one of these for $199 about three years ago, fiddled with it off-and-on for almost a year. Picked it up one day, suddenly felt comfortable with it, and played it solid for the next two years. I liked it So much, that when one came up for sale about six months ago for the same price through Sweetwater, I jumped on it, and now own two!

These are Great basses for the money! Right out of the box, the necks are set up well with low action, and the fret-board is on the thin-and-flat side, which makes it comfortable to play. I have small-to-average hands, so the neck is a perfect profile to play on. The string spacing is probably 17mm, which makes it easier to play. I'm not a slapper, so can't tell you if the tighter spacing would make that style more difficult, but with my hand size, it's not a problem...

Honestly, for $199+shipping, you won't find a better 6-string for twice the price. Ibanez's build quality on these are solid - both my necks are straight, and true. They come strung with Elixer nano-web strings, which I like the feel of. The electronics are quite good for this price range, with two Volume pots; a Tone Control pot that has a nice sweep to it; and a Bass Boost pot, that can really dial in the low end if you want it. I've gotten lots of compliments from fellow bassists on how well this bass sounds.

You won't be sorry if you decide to spend a couple hundred on this bass. Hey, just a couple two-three gigs, and it's paid for! :D

For sure looks like a pretty good deal!
But bills and expenses are heavy lately!
If it still for a while I may give it a shot! :)

For some reason I can't get my way around with a 5 string bass but have a strong feeling a 6 string would be more manageable. So I decided to give a shot on this one.
It's been sitting there for a while and well, can't go wrong with the return policy and price on that!
Wish me luck!

No kidding about those photos, holy cow! Most GC photos look like they are taken with a flip phone from 2002 but these are gorgeous.

The bass arrived safe and sound but with a black crust all over the frets so I polished/cleaned the frets and treated the fretboard. Nice fingerboard!
It's for sure the best you can get for the money, the electronics sound fine and the neck is great, feels like i'm playing a Rickenbacker!
With 2 extra strings that I have to figure how to use!
It came with a cheap gig bag, manuals, chord, tools, tags and a Levy's super wide black leather strap. Everything looks new but the bass is from 2011.

Wow, the neck wood looks great! String it up, dial it in, play it, and let us know what you Really think!

I did just for a little bit, like I said the electronics sound good and the neck feels great!
Takes some practice but it's a really nice bass overall specially for the price!
The bridge seems to be really nice too.
Next step, strings... These seem to be the original ones so I guess a new set would do some improvement!
Idk if I have to order anything in special but I measured it and this is a 34" scale.
