Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
So does anyone here have experience with these deluxe models? Always been curious about them but it seems like I've heard bad things about the pickups & electronics.

Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
Smaller body, longer neck. Pickups and pre-amp not as raved about as, say, a Sadowsky. Most are turned into a passive, with different PU's. Build Quality is nice. It does feel like a Deluxe. (a friend of mine has a red 5-string).
Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
I had one as my main bass for four years, and only sold it to get a 5 string MusicMan Bongo. I absolutely loved the feel of it, the weight, and the smaller body even though I am a big guy. The preamp was responsive and good, and the tone of the SCN's was good, but not knock my socks off good. I think the preamp on the Bongo is more responsive in the upper ranges, but the bass response on the fender was great! People absolutely love the tone of my Bongo bass, and were more ok with the tone. Not bad at all, just not enough to knock most people's socks off.Matt R. wrote:So does anyone here have experience with these deluxe models? Hope this helps!

Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
Matt, I had one of the older ones from the late 90's early 2000, it had those Noiseless pickups. Indeed the electronics was horrendous. Probably the worst I have ever heard actually, it was harsh sounding in the highs with muddy lows. I ditched all the electronics and put some Lindy's in it and it was fine. I really liked the neck. Now, the ones they made after 2008 with the five bolt neck, SCN pickups, better 18v preamp were much much better sounding. You'd want to check when it was made. The white pickguard tells me it could be a more recent mode but l don't thimk it is the high mass bridge.
Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
Thanks Frenchy. I'm not in the market for this specific bass (sketchy condition and I'm broke from upgrading my bikes haha), but I'll snag one eventually. Did you just run your Lindys passive?

Save your money and pick up a Sire V7 instead. Far better preamp and bass overall, IMO.Matt R. wrote:Thanks guys. Definitely wanna pick one of these up one day.

Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
Yes I had the Lindy's wired passive (I left one of the 4 knobs unconnected). Last I know this bass was owned by our talented young board member Ptbass who upgraded it with Sadowski pickups and preamp. He seemed to be using this bass quite a bit.Matt R. wrote:Thanks Frenchy. Let's say that for $600 this would be a great deal for whoever wants to upgrade the electronics but in your case Matt you already have a plethora of great Jazz Basses.

Re: Jazz Bass Deluxe $600
That was the year on mine, 2005. I didn't think the highs were present in a shrill way, just felt the knob didn't do a done. The bass knob and adjustments were wide, but ironically enough I used the mids most.
