Wanted: Warwick Corvette Standard -- bubinga / 4-string
Wanted: Warwick Corvette Standard -- bubinga / 4-string
Tax return was good to us this year so I got the okay from my wife to add to the collection.
I've wanted a real Warwick since the '90s. John Norwood Fisher was the first bass player to blow my mind ("bonin in the boneyard" is my username on TalkBass) and both he and my bass teacher at the time played Thumbs (my teacher's was a gift from Jack Bruce!). But I think a Corvette is more my speed.
So that's what I'm looking for. Preferably an older German one, passive (three knobs), 4-string.
I've had a good look around and haven't found anything available. Please let me know if you see one, or if you have one lying around that isn't getting enough love.
Thanks!

Bump!
One went up for sale on Arni's the other day, but the seller had interest from w/in Europe and preferred to avoid an overseas sale.
Still GASing

Fishbone! Yes! I had never heard of Fishbone until just 2014 when my buddy told me about them.
We ended up seeing them in December of that year when we saw them open for the Bosstones at the Hometown Throwdown! They were outstanding! Norwood played Streamers, if I recall. He also played a gorgeous example of a model which I can't remember the name, but I specifically remember a lefty of that model floating around here at the time. I will look it up tomorrow at work, but I am sure it sold.
He told me a few weeks ago that the original lineup may be touring soon.
As far as the guy in Europe goes, don't give up! He will eventually sell it to you if he can't find a buyer over there.
Also, Wayne's World is a significant part of my childhood!

They're great in their own wild way. I first saw them on the Warped Tour '96 and didn't know what to expect because Angelo in particular seemed really weird on an MTV interview. But I was into dancing at shows at the time (total ska punk) and they really delivered!

Fast forward a year or two and I was living in Orlando (well, Winter Park) trying to do the music thing, and I dragged a car full of friends to back-to-back shows in Miami and West Palm. One of those friends was dealing in decent weight at the time and after the show asked Dirty Walter if he wanted to hang out. We spent a few hours on the tour bus with Walter while a few of the other guys cycled through for a puff or two. I barely remember the drive home because Walter just wanted to roll blunt after blunt of high-end stuff that you just don't put in blunts
(Do the cool kids in FL still call it the "crippy"?) We did it again the next night in the green room at the next show. Good times with the only bummer that Fisher didn't really want to chat with us. I hope I wasn't staring too much!

Anyway, John favors the Infinity, which is a frikking awesome looking ax, but wayyy to intense and $$ for the likes of me
But he has a whole stable full of Warwicks.

Nice one - thanks for linking the threads together Paulo!

You've got it Tim!
Congrats, very happy for you!
Specially cause you've been on the hunt for it for a while!
How many times I've contacted sellers who didn't even bothered replying to my email? Probably around 8 times overall. I'm very glad my GAS is over (I hope so)!
Cheers to that!

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked. I've had sooo many Craigslist hassles.
This bad boy will alleviate my GAS for a while! Ugh, but then there are amplifiers....

And I know it's the wrong model, but here's my Warwick happy music for the night:

Re: Wanted: Warwick Corvette Standard -- bubinga / 4-string
I got this in hand this evening. I only had about fifteen minutes with it because work is kicking my ass and my wife went to a trivia night and left me with the kids just before their bedtime blah blah blah... But grown-up-life woes aside, my initial impressions are:
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!
The bass is in EXCELLENT condition. It has an aged look but with almost no marks or blemishes. Amazing brick-red/brown wood.
This is by far the single most ergonomic bass I have ever touched. Wonderful shape and balance. It just sits right on my belly where it's supposed to with no corners or edges to be felt anywhere. The neck profile is very close to my Dean acoustic so my right hand felt right at home. I love the flat fingerboard radius and the angled tuners.
I don't have a proper amp at the moment, but I played it through a PJB bass cub and DI-->studio monitors, and it sounded exactly like it should. I think that part of the Warwick sound comes from kind of a reduced fundamental relative to the midrange harmonics. So played for a bit with the EQ flat, and then for fun boosted the bass by 6 or 9dB. Oh man, that bottom end is so nice!
Next comes my obsessive routine of trying out ten different kinds of strings, but I know that will be a breeze thanks to the two-part bridge.
Thanks again to everyone who alerted me to this bass. Definitely a happy (and grateful) camper here.
Cheers,
-tim

It looks like a sweet bass! I had the MIC with the same shape and pickups with alder body, it was already awesome, I can imagine this one! Cheers!
Re: Wanted: Warwick Corvette Standard -- bubinga / 4-string
Glad you scored the bass and great to see another Fishbone fan.

Re: Wanted: Warwick Corvette Standard -- bubinga / 4-string
Saw Fishbone here in Honolulu years ago - what a great band! Also, one of my bands was playing at a Sports Bar gig, again years ago, and the drummer for Fishbone sat in with us for three songs... Our drummer sucked, so me and the guitar player were stoked!andrew wrote:Glad you scored the bass and great to see another Fishbone fan.
Congrats on a great looking bass, and glad you're digging your dream bass!
