I think taking the case should be a deal breaker. If he quotes $70 to ship with the case, it is probably $40-50 to ship without. Plus the purchase of the case makes a difference of $70-$80.

Up to you and how much you really want it....

Did you try the other one in Spain? Who knows, you might get a better deal...

Yes he said 70 to ship 50 for case. I offered asking price plus half of shipping and case. Seems fair. Waiting to hear back. The thing about the red one is its $450 + shipping. the black one is $300 +shipping and case so im still doing better price-wise. Black one also seems pretty minty.

The seller and I were able to strike a deal! I mentioned Yolly's idea of taking the neck off and he agreed. He will send it out on saturday. My first international order. Pretty smooth so far. Im excited! Im going to see how the stock pups and preamp sound to me, but I'm leaning towards trying the Geezer P/J set in there either with or without the stock preamp. Maybe an OPB-3 also, maybe all passive. We will see!

Congrats!

I've got a Geezer P/J set. After playing them on and off for about a year I've decided that they're a bit too lively for my taste. Very nice pickups, just not my style. PM me if you're interested.

The stock pickups sound a lot like EMG's.

I always wanted a red 800; maybe I should look into it.

Congrats, nice find. I've owned a black 1987 SR800LE, and it was such a comfortable bass to wear and to play! Superfast neck.

The stock pickups in the SR800 are low-impedance active pickups. So I don't think the stock preamp will work with passive pickups, but I'm no electronics expert.

You'd have to change the volume/blend pot from 20K to (presumably) 250k.
