I couldn't find a local lefty, so I'll be heading to the studio next weekend with it strung righty. I want to get a few soundclips of it with each pickup combination in both active and passive mode.

that's my old homemade logo ... the new one is like my current avatar and is professionally printed

I also have a couple other lefty 4-string necks, and I may just swap them around for what I finally offer for sale and also for recording the soundclips. I think it would be interesting to see if it's possible to capture any discernable difference between two or three different Maple/Birdseye necks of identical dimensions and construction

How much would that bass cost if it were finished in black, had a rosewood fingerboard and tort guard?

I'm generally not a fan of the fancy stuff because the niceness looks too delicate to let loose on, but I would take that bass out and beat the hell out of it in a heartbeat. I'm not implying that it doesn't look gorgeous, it just manages to look like a beast at the same time. I bet she'd look fantastic with some dings, bruises, burns, and spills on her.

it came in just under 8.5 pounds, but I can pull a full pound and a half plus out of it by

- selecting an ultralight Swamp Ash body core
- choosing different control knobs (these metal ones weigh almost 1/2 pound!)
- using an aluminum bridge vs. brass

a passive model will also be lighter by two batteries and a pre-amp

OK - I finally was able to clear my schedule enough to finish this up (dratted urgent "drop everything" day job project!) and amp it up for the first time this afternoon ...

all I can say is that the tone (in either active or passive mode) is absolutely H-U-G-E I was anticipating this one would sound killer, but not this killer! even my wife noted this is the best sounding bass I've made to date

since I can't find any local lefty who's willing to jump into the studio to record a few lines with this, I'm going to set it up righty so a gifted client can lay a few lines for me. I hope to have these chopped into sound bites and available sometime next week.
