Ibanez Musician Project

Post by Matt R. »

Some of you may have seen this. I'm super interested in snagging this if it stays cheap. Anyone have any thoughts as to whether it's worth bothering with? Parts easy to come by? Is it legit? Hopefully Jeroen may chime in here.

There's not much Musician left here, probably only the neck section and the bridge. I've seen the auction, someone posted the link on a Dutch bass forum. It's been horribly mutilated. I think it was originally a mid 80s MC824, as it appears to have a rosewood fingerboard and is routed for two humbuckers. In original condition, it would have looked like this:

If the fingerboard IS ebony, it's an MC924 from that same era, which would have looked like this:

As far as I know, there was never a lefty version of that model. Only the 1980-1983 models were available lefthanded. I think someone has cut off the body wings, glued on some new ones and gave it its current bodyshape. The shape of the electronics routing looks nothing like that of a Musician, so I really couldn't imagine this is the (remains of the) original body.

it's a nice looking bass and seems to be very well built.
I wouldn't know any thing beyond that.
