First completed build: Monty's lefty

Post by abarson »

Number 1 was started first, but #2 got finished first!
I built this for a friend at work, who's a lefty and complained that he couldn't find left handed basses in stores. He saw what I was doing on #1 and commissioned me to make him one.

Details: 4-string chambered body neck through fretted bass.
Neck: Maple-walnut-maple
Fingerboard: Ebanol, fretted 34-inch scale
Body: Maple-spanish cedar-zebrawood veneer sandwich
Finish: Birchwood-Casey sealer & Tru-Oil
Bridge & tuning machines: Wilkinson
Pickup: Mighty Mite humbucking
Electronics: Offshore preamp, volume/bass/treble controls
Knobs: Walnut plugs with zebrawood veneer

A slide show of the build process can be seen here:

Wow, that looks really cool. I think this bass with a pair of Darkstar pickups would be stunning.

Looks very good!
But that bridge looks like it went straight out of the box and onto the bass without any adjustment. Is that really intonated properly? It looks so... righthanded! ;)
