super cool bass !! of course the price is far beyond my pocket.
not 100% sure, but it's almost a carbon copy of one owned by another forumite here ... i remember the tone from youtube videos was great.

i don't ever recall seeing just a well maintained neck date stamp on any vintage piece - righty or lefty - from that era. Ditto for the word "Special". Wasn't "Special" usually stamped in red? That looks hand painted to me.

It'd be interesting to see the underside of the pickups and the pot numbers. It looks like a closet relic, so the stamp date being so intact is not out of place, neither is the hand-written "Special" designation. Never seen one like it, but not far-fetched.
Two things I find strange: the white seems yellower under the bridge cover. Shouldn't it be the other way around? The area that was under the cover should be whiter than the rest of the bass. Maybe because the finish is nitro so it fades differently? My '73 P-Bass, which is poly, definitely has faded the opposite: whiter in non-exposed areas, and yellower on most of the body. Also, it'd be interesting to see the color under the pickguard. And lastly, shouldn't the pickguard have shrunk a little?
I never saw this for sale by the Guitar Broker before, but if that was the case, then it's pretty safe to say it's the real thing.
In any case, wow. That's a beautiful thing.

Having a 62 there are things that seem legit and others a bit less.Lefty007 wrote:It'd be interesting to see the underside of the pickups and the pot numbers. As for the fade/yellow my 69 telecaster is the opposite way as you mentioned.
For the "Special" my 62 has some hand-writing in the butt so I don't think it is unusual.
The green on the frets seems vintage also
The pickguard on the 62 is pretty much straight with just a little bit of warp in few places.
I agree that I would like to see the back of the pickguard and the pots also !!!
