Mystic Red
Mystic Red
Have any of you seem Fender's Mystic Red color in person? I'm unloading some gear and I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a new Jazz in that color. I've seen some photos where it looks pretty much the same as candy apple red, which is what I'm hoping for. The stock Fender photos make it look more like a normal sort of primary red though. Hard color to photograph.

Re: Mystic Red
That seems to be the consensus on the new Fender colors. That statement always also seems to be accompanied by "they look much better in person". Curious to see one in person too.Matt R. wrote:Hard color to photograph.
What other gear you unloading?
Re: Mystic Red
I'm also about to pull the trigger on a P-Bass in this color.
It looks a tad more vibrant and light than CAR, and I see some orange tinges:

Re: Mystic Red
From what I understand, it's sparkly.
So, even though it looks like CAR, I guess there's some tiny glitter crystals in the paint.
I'm still on my Fender boycott for not giving us maple, or I'd probably order one too.

I hear the shade of red changes depending on how angry you are at Fender.
Re: Mystic Red
I just placed my order for a P-bass in this color. Should be here next Wed or Thursday. I'll take some picture for y'all.

Re: Mystic Red
If it looks anything like this, I am sold on that color and I LOVE red. An added mint pickguard would be the money. Good compliment on red with rosewood board.

Re: Mystic Red
It's white.... I was just saying a mint pickguard would be killer on this red finish (see original link above I posted of the bluesman custom w/mint pickguard). Fender got my GAS going on this option color. Just wish they did maple fingerboards and I would pull the trigger.bbl wrote:Is the stock pg white or mint?

Re: Mystic Red
Graves, I don't see any difference between this Mystic Red color and my red 1996 P-Bass (I don't know how they called the color at the time though).
Re: Mystic Red
As I said above, the difference is that the new mystic colors are sparkly... or metallic... or whatever you want to call it.
I was able to find a decent pic...

It is quite pretty, but alas... no maple fingerboards.

Yeah, the more I see it, the more I think it's very candy apple red-ish. I do like it.

Re: Mystic Red
Didn't someone buy one of these recently to be delivered shortly...? Carlos? Please post some pics and quality control on these 2013 models. I love the color.
Frenchy, yes... Your Red 90' P with mint pickguard was killer. That's what gave me the idea. I do think this is a different red tho. Its more sparkly.
But again, Fender sucks for not offering maple boards on these basses and american even.

Re: Mystic Red
I just heard from the store that they just shipped it yesterday and it won't get to me until next Monday, and I will be out of town all next week, so I won't get to open the box until Friday, May 10th. . . Sooooo, patience.
I'm with you, Jim, Fender hasn't offered bass maple fretboards since the early '80s, and that's B.S. They have all kinds of lefty guitars with maple fretboard, MIA and MIM.
I like the look of rosewood better, but I like the sound of maple better, so really I'm happy with either. Both my '73 P and my '82 Jazz have maple fretboards (the '73 P actually has a one-piece maple neck, no fretboard per se) and of course, they kick ass. My favorite fretboard wood actually is wenge: gotta love the look, feel, and sound of those. . .

Re: Mystic Red
So I just got back from my trip - bass box waiting for me by the door. The color is pretty much what you are seeing in the photos posted, like a deeper CAR - it actually looks darker than CAR in person, but with more light it has that orange. It's like CAR with a bit more sparkle and one of two different color shades mixed in there. I don't think it's any more special than CAR. More sparkles, different name . . .
But hey, at least we can say we finally have lefty Fenders available in red. Not seen since 1996.
Alas, the bass has the famous Fender quality control flaw where the bridge is not installed in the right location and the strings (in this case, the G string) is really close to the edge of the neck.
I mean, I think it's a pretty grave flaw; I guess Fender doesn't think so because they've been doing this forever.
Positive observations: it sounds really good and it's light and resonant.

Re: Mystic Red
A little update about this, it wasn't actually a misaligned bridge, but a misaligned neck, which was fixed by loosening the neck a bit and moving it into position and re tightening the screws. I guess the neck pocket isn't very snug. So, no bid deal here.Lefty007 wrote:. . .
