Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
Not a Fuzz but I am very interested in the new MXR M89 Overdrive. No reviews available on the web yet but I really like my Bass Fuzz Deluxe so hopefully, it is as good of an effect. It has not been shipped yet but looks promissing and reasonably priced ($129)

Anyone here use a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B?
Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
I just acquired one last week, and first impressions are great!andrew wrote:Anyone here use a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B?

Also, on the subject of Fuzz, I am playing with the Malekko Omicron Fuzz. It's a tiny little guy, but makes a hell of a noise. Not designed for bass, so you do miss the low end, but hey it's fun. Also, hat tip to Josh from Malekko who looked after me when I needed to fix the annoying pop from the switch. Turns out it's the LED that's the culprit, and he swapped the pedal out at their warehouse/factory with no problem, and invited me to come down any time to play stuff, with no obligation. Now if I could just afford that assmaster....
For those pedal junkies, I highly recommend Juan Alderette's Pedals and effects site. He seems to own more pedals than perhaps any other bass player, and has some great fuzz reviews, especially the fuzz wars episode with Janek Gwizdala. It features both the pickle pie B and the Omicron... go get yer fuzz on!

Thanks for the FYI NoXX, I will check out Juan's site.
Also John Kallas has been on a DirtQuest recently and his tests, builds and mods are impressive to say the least. His recent Marshall Super Bass pre-amp build is awesome.

I have a Marshall Guv'nor clone John built for me that is awesome. Easily my favorite distortion box with a jazz bass.Basshappi wrote:Thanks for the FYI NoXX, I will check out Juan's site.

John's builds are so well done. That guy is amazing.
Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
Great, more incentive for me to try one. I'm now curious too about the brand new W+C Mercy Phuk pedal. hopefully sound clips pop up soon, seems like it could be a really cool pedal.NoXX wrote:I just acquired one last week, and first impressions are great!andrew wrote:Anyone here use a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B?

"W+C Mercy Phuk pedal"?
Never heard of this one, are you sure you did not make it up or it is the name of your favorite Vietnamese restaurant?

indeed it does look good.
I just hate internal trim pots tho, as I am forever twiddling with knobbies and find interal trim pots to be a royal PITA. Just sayin' ......

Agreed, I am not a fan of internal trim pots either.

Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
Mercy Phuk? What is it with effect pedal names? I recently sold a "Swollen Pickle" to a guy buying it for his 11 yrs old kid who said "well, that's a... funny name!"
Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
I'm after the Omicron Fuzz now because of how much I liked the sound when it was demo'ed on pedalsandeffects.comNoXX wrote:Also, on the subject of Fuzz, I am playing with the Malekko Omicron Fuzz. Really like the top end in it; it's doesn't have that dark, muffled top end many fuzz pedals have.
Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
I swapped pedals with NoXX and got an Ashdown LoMenzo Hyper Drive in the deal. I LOVE THIS PEDAL. If you play precision basses this pedal is genius for cutting through a loud band mix. It's not like any other dirt pedal I've tried, and it's uniqueness is really refreshing. It's rare to get a new take on something as done and done again as distortion pedals.
I also got the EBS Sheehan signature distortion pedal. It's also a pretty great sounding pedal. Similar to the Hyper Drive, but fatter sounding and not as cutting.

Nice!
BTW I traded the Omicron for an EBS Octabass - loads of fun!

Re: Fuzzzzzzzzzz
JohnK has agreed to build me his modified version of the Wampler Triple Wreck!
After listening to the demo on his site I realized that this is the sound in my head when I think of distortion/fuzz.

Guess my LBM and TS9DX will be up for sale!
