Scam 64 Jazz perpetually on ebay

Post by bhunt1 »

This has been listed 3 times in the past few days, each time under a different seller. It get yanked quickly, then shows up under a different seller:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Jazz-Bas ... 3a7c2513bd

In the item description it says don't bid, email me. I did on one of the previous listings just for fun, and the reply was send me the buy it now price and you can have it. Hmmm . . .

any time you see a repost of a recently sold item, or one that brought in big dollars, which has a too-good-to-be-true B.I.N. and a message along the lines of "don't bid before you contact me via email" it is most definately a scam. Please report the item right away. this is a typical scam format that has been used for years.

eBay used to yank these kinds of ads in a hurry, but now they are waiting for more folks to report the item before it gets pulled. If you have an ebay customer service number and have the time to call them about the listing, they generally pull it right away.

Yes definitely a scam. They are on to this one - it has been pulled very fast each time.

Bonjour,

This bass is great. I did few adjustments and some fret job. It's easy to play and sounds warm and punchy. Very similar to the other '64 I have.

I reported it as fraudulent. It's amazing they can keep relisting it under a different seller name, and it's always a seller with many sales and an excellent rating. I guess that is all part of the fraud, somehow they must be hacking ebay's seller profiles.

They even use the exact same pics as the one that Yves bought from the pawnshop in Ohio. With a BIN of $2000 some will get fooled on that one.

Now I guess you understand why I contacted you after the sale: I received a ebay second offer on your bass right after the sale.
Those kind of people should try to get a life instead of trying to steal others!!

Anyway, congrats on the bass, it was a steal, kind of ;-)

Jeez... just the Buy It Now price of $2000 for a '64 Jazz Bass should be a major red flag. Plus, so many parts of this sellers auction is suspect - 1st) the person writes as if they're from China/foreign country, 2nd) when I clicked o the sellers name, the seller mentions she's a woman, and has this to say for herself; "I am an older gal, was raised by parents who believed people should be good, God fearing individuals and have honesty & truth as their creed...", but the gmail account listing starts with "David". 3rd) The description says that if you're "in the Dayton Ohio" area, you can stop by and check it out, but the seller's location is in Reading, Pa. :?:

And what's up with the "5 minutes guaranteed reply"? Does it take five minutes to read whatever this person sends you? Or is there a 5 minute phone message you're directed to? Just for the hell of it, I just sent the seller this email:

"This is in reference to your ebay auction, item number 261138740368, a 1964 Fender Jazz Bass.

I'll be honest with you; it seems this price is too good to be true, and your auction is for a bass that isn't really available. I believe this bass has been reported several times for possibly being a scam sale. How are you able to authenticate that this bass is indeed for sale, and for a price that is literally thousands of dollars below what a 1964 left handed Jazz Bass would normally sell for?

Considering your sales, and 100% satisfaction rate, I'm hoping you can verify for me that this is a legitimate auction, and one I would be confident in bidding on.

Thank you

fivebass52

Just to keep you all up to date, sort of, I have received no reply to my email from the seller of this auction. I would think if this was a legitimate auction, the seller would be happy to resolve any doubts.... guess there might be a few!
